I've recently bought a Belgium copy of a model #3. It seems to be in 38 40 caliber. I've never even seen a pistol in this caliber. Have I got the measurements right. rim, 13.3 mm, case 11.6mm, bullet 9.3mm, with a shoulder of 10mm?
I've got another one that's 44 Russian, but it's the right cal.

Welcome to the Forum What is the length of the case and OAL? Your bullet is .366 caliber The 38-40 Winchester is actually a .40 caliber cartridge derived from necking down the 44 Winchester.

I don't know the dimensions of the 38-40 cartridge---but Google does.

As to other revolvers chambered for the 38-40, the Triple Lock, the .44 Double Action 1st Model, at least one NM #3 Target (#3914) that lived here for a spell -------and lettered as "-----------appears to have been a special order for one unit---------------." (Anomalies such as this are explained by one of Jinks' oft used explanations, "They would do anything anybody would pay them to do.") And seems like the SCSW speaks of a batch of NM #3's numbered from 1 to 74 in 38-40. Beyond that, I'm pretty much like you. I've seen only the one I mentioned above, but I was treated to shooting a big thumping Colt in 38-40 when David Carroll and his grandson stopped by on their way to the Smokies for some bear watching. He'd brought along a bunch of different guns, and A BUNCH of ammo for all of them, with the instruction to "Shoot it up!", I mowed off a lane in the front field, set up some target stands, and we did as we were told. One of the guns was a Schofield, along with an almost full box of ammo, which he described as "I don't know if these are factory or reloads, but shoot'em up!" Near as I recall two rounds went BANG, and the rest went CLICK, but I could say I'd fired a Schofield.

Colt had revolvers in 38-40 [38 WCF], as well as Ruger.

38-40 dimensions compared to Op's :

Bullet diameter .401 in (10.2 mm) - - 9.30 mm
Neck diameter .417 in (10.6 mm) - - 10.0 mm
Shoulder dia. .453 in (11.6 mm) - - 11.5 mm
Base diameter .470 in (12.0 mm) - -
Rim diameter .525 in (13.3 mm) - - 13.3 mm

Sounds like a 38-40 except for the fact that the OP has not supplied any length measurements and the bullet diameter is too small?

Made in Belgium

It's best to first date the revolver in question. If it has MADE IN BELGIUM stamped on it then it's post 1891.
The early guns were primarily European calibers like 442,44 Eley, 44 Webley, etc. unless it's an import.
I've never seen a European copy in 38/40. The examples that were made for the US market were primarily 44 WCF with the later imports.
