If you really wanted to you could wear a belly band in the same general position as a shoulder holster. Is this what you want to compare Gary?

A "Belly Band" holster is usually a large piece of elastic, sort of like an Ace bandage you'd use on your sprained ankle or a blood pressure cuff. They have a velcro closure and holster/pockets sewn into the elastic band. They're generally worn around the waist.

A shoulder holster can be made of any of the common holster materials such as leather or nylon. It hangs suspended from the shoulder by a strap, and has a suspension system that goes across to the opposite shoulder to help hold things in place, and distribute the weight.

Check out youtube vids on both. There are many.
I tried the belly band, it did not agree with my shape.

A belly band is useful when you don't wear a belt or if you need ultra deep concealment. You can put it up high like a shoulder holster or as low as you can carry it. In warm weather it can make me too warm so when I use it I wear it low at or below the waist line. I use mine as a back support more than a holster. I just washed it and it's outside drying now.
