A buddy of mine found out that I had gotten a 15-22, and was just plain dumbfounded that I didn't have a offset mount yet. I was regaled with stories of how fantastic they are.

My thought is unless you are using the rifle for a primary home defense weapon, and would need the ability to come on target quickly, is there a real benefit in having one if you primarily use the rifle for plinking or varmint shooting? am I missing something?

(other than the possibility of the zombie apocalypse  )

No, your right :) Buy ammo & magazines instead.

That was my thought... My primary home defense is a S&W 6906, I think I would be much happier with more magazines and alot more ammo!

All correct. The only reason for any kind of offset sights is because your main optic can't operate well in close quarters. and that really only applies in 3-gun or multigun competition.

I have a a TRS-25 red dot mounted on a offset mount. I also have a 3-9x scope.

I like to plink at cans, etc. up fairly close and use the red dot for that.

In the same range trip I may also do a bunch of shooting at 100 yards and use the scope for that. With my old eyes, I need two different optics for the two different tasks.

I guess that makes me a Mall Ninja.

(Must be nice to live in a world where it is so easy to label people without knowing them.)

I kept LOOKING at The Rapid Transit Sites...
So found a CHINA Knock off for $35 shipped....

Landed last week... i really Like it.... WHEN My battery dies in Reflex, it will..LOL, the Irons are Nice to have....

Plus it looks COOL

Thats my MALL NINJA Review:p

I have three sight setups - factory iron, RDS and a scope. All are on QD mounts and I can change between any of them in under a minute with less that 1 MOA POI change. No need to clutter up the firearm.

I had not considered that, as I have bad eyesight, and have since I was a little boy. In that sense it does seem to make it a worthwhile addition. In all honesty I probably still will purchase more magazines and ammo, but I see your point. I guess that makes me a Mall Ninja window shopper!

I guess you can put me in the Mall Ninja category as well.

I have a Warne RAMP mount (it has a 45 degree angle built very nicely on it as well as a set of 30mm or 1inch rings, depending on which you order.

I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 for longer distance shots and a Primary Arms fixed base MicroDot on the 45 degree mount.

So I guess having failing eyes and a 45 degree mount gets me labeled as a 'Mall Ninja'.

But you spent more QD mounts than the cost of one offset mount.

Clutter or cost appears to be the choice for those with a need for more sight options....

Mounts are integral to the factory iron sights - $0.00
Mount is integral to the RDS - $0.00
UTG QD rings for scope - $29.00

Bet that's cheaper than your angle mounts. :)

You're right, it's all an individual choice.

What are you attaching to the offset ? Optics, lights or laser. Light and maybe a laser I can understand but a back up sighting system for a .22 lr...they do make low powered scopes. What are you shooting at that you would need a second or even a third sighting system ?

Why not put two canted rails with two rmr's one on each side of a red dot. Then you can use your red dot or your irons and then you can turn the rifle to the left for or right and have a sight system for all encounters. Sounds pretty dumb....right....maybe a little overboard perhaps

I win this bet.

I use one angled mount for the TRS25.

The are substantially cheaper than the $29 you mentioned. (here's some for $10.88 shipping included)

Well - I would (not going to debate this in this thread.. it's been hashed out 500 times before) never grab my 15-22 as my first line of defense in my home... or any situation... unless it's the only one I can get to fast.

The reason I prefer to mount the Primary Arms MicroDot on the RAMP 45 degree beside the Nikon Rimfire 3x9 is because, as stated above.. I have failing eyes. More so than most on this board I'm sure. I have a retinal degenerative eye disease. So a 50 yard shot with irons for you, is a situation I need a magnified glass. So I take 50 yards or sometimes more shots and I like the red dot for 10-25 yard shots.

It's just a fun range setup for me... I wouldn't bet my life on the Primary Arms Red Dot (not knocking their products.. they are EXCELLENT for what they are intended for). It's just fun shooting the 50 or 75 yard shot and switching to the red dot fast and taking a couple swinging steel shots up close.

Amen on that. Except for the TruGlo I use for speed steel shooting all the optic packages I have for my 15-22 are mounted on QR mounts and all keep their POA fine.

Are you saying the stock Smith sights on a 15-22 will get you back to within 1" POI at 100 yards (effectively 1 MOA) when you take them off and put them back on after shooting a while with another sight system?

There must be something wrong with my 15-22 cuz my stock sights won't do that.

I don't think the mount on my TRS25 will do that either.
