Wasn't looking to buy anything unless a good deal came along, just looking.

Compared to some shows I went to last year, this show had a few more Smiths than I was used to seeing. Most prices were high (natch), but some were just outrageous in my opinion.

An 18-2, minty, no box; $875.
A k22, minty, no box; $1000
A 22 outdoorsman with finished over pitting; $775

There were two that I wonder if I should have scooped up.

A 2" Model 15(don't know the dash) that had a turn line and a buggered up grip panel that looked like something was dropped on it for $475 and a Model 27 4" that I would guess was 96-98% no box for $675.

Oh well, maybe someone here picked it up.

All in all , the show wasn't bad, we sold a couple of S&Ws ourselves and at very fair prices too....the guy helping me at the table picked up a mint 2 in round butt Model 10 for $300 so there were some 'deals' to be found....too bad in the winter shows, the two buildings that have "heat", are so small, way smaller show than in the spring, summer time.........never did get a chance to 'walk around" and check out the other table holders, just heard about some of their prices...typical really.

The problem with the recent reintroduction of the Model 17 and 18,is that every dealer thinks the older ones should command money in line with the prices of the expensive new versions....Can't say I like it,but I understand their rationale.....glad I got the ones that I did, when I did.

I won't be going back to the winter Berea gun show. I went to the last one, and the crowd made it impossible to shop...In fact, it was dangerously crowded. I just couldn't stand it.

I went Saturday and the prices did seem to be high. I looked at that 4" 27-2 but walked away from the same table with a 2" Model 60-1 with adjustable sights for $550. The gun came with the box and papers but no tool kit. Supposedly gun has only been factory fired and can't find any reason not to believe it. I have been looking for an early model 60 and couldn't pass up NIB with the rare adj sights, even if the price was a little high.

Now the question is do I stash it in the back of the safe and find another "shooter" 60 or just shoot the thing.

Hello

So it is just not me who thinks the prices at gunshows in Ohio are way outer limits? This is not just for S&W, but firearms in general. Then again, I'm working part time and cash is not in mega abundance for me right now, but still think prices are too high. I live in Toledo, so I have not been to any Cleveland area gunshows lately, need to check one out again here soon.
Thanks
Mark

I was also at Berea on Saturday. Bought a couple of guns while I was up there. I will probably post them here this weekend.

Here's what I bought:
- old factory renickeled S&W Model 1902 .38 Special Revolver [from 'dant']
- nickeled S&W .38 Double Action 4th Model Top-Break Revolver; Cleveland Police Department marked

The Berea Gun Show this time of the year can be dangerously crowded. There are times you can't even move. And if something did happen in one of the buildings, it would be impossible to get out. The reason it is in only the two buildings is those are the only ones that have heat.

The prices at Ohio gun shows, for me, have been fairly good. With this bad economy a lot of dealers that I do business with have been coming down in price to make the sale. I have picked up quite a few good buys of late including a .44 Triple Lock.

The high prices that we normally encounter are from the dealers and individuals who have their guns marked up too high and won't take a little less just to sell them. In other words, they want top dollar. Problem is we have a bad economy and most people don't have the money to spend. That's why you see the same dealers with the same guns in their cases at just about every show. And it's just not the dealers but private individuals also walking around selling their guns.

In fairness to the dealer, the K22 did have a gold box and papers under the table - still seemed high to me. Berea is getting to be like Medina where the dealers have more room behind their tables than the customers do in the aisles. Takes a lot of the fun out of going to the shows. Still, we keep going and lining up for a half hour in the cold to rush in before the crowd develops. Most of the baby strollers show up after 9:45 or so.

oh you find out pretty quickly just who you can deal with and those that are hard headed and overpriced..................
Tomcat, there are the shows over in Maumee, we belong to that also, and try and get over there, when ever possible.........
