Out of this thread comes my question - what, precisely, do I have?

It's got the old style mag release and the new safety, so I think it might be kind of scarce. Look into it some more. It might be a little more valuable than normal. Or it could just be a put together gun maybe.

You’ve got a 92-S, I really like mine. Many of these were imported as surplus law enforcement/military pistols.

The trigger is better than the newer ones, and I love the look of the rounded trigger guard and the blue finish compared to the coating they put on the new ones. Great shooting gun with zero hiccups. They are a classic pistol with no plastic parts.

I like the Model 92; mine actually hits where I aim, from the 25 yard line and in. All three of these are very accurate. That one in the OP looks brand new.
The only issues at all were the ugly scratches on the handles. That’s why I changed mine. But pretty accurate and dependable for surplus firearms. That .32 is very good shooter but a little heavy for EDC.
That Model 92S was my first 9mm.

Probably an 92S; but could be a 92 if it has a stepped slide towards the muzzle.

Heel mag release.

Not an FS

Incorrect. First off, the 92 has a frame mounted safety and the vast majority are not step slides.

Good catch on the safety, early 92s did have a stepped slide.

I did say "probably an 92S ".

Yes the early 92 had a step slide. I had one a few years back. However, most of the original 92 production did not have a step slide. It was only the first 5000 or so.

Thanks, y'all. I think I knew it was a 92 S and next time I pull it out of the secret hiding place....wait....yup, 92 S right there on the slide. I should read more....

P W Arms Richmond VA imported it.

It is clean except for a teenie ding or two and the grip screws have either a patina or rust on them. The bases of the Beretta magazines are worn.

The decocker/safety works perfectly and I leave it in Condition 2, safety off, hammer down on the loaded chamber. Typical double action like my S&Ws, my favorite way to keep a TDA pistol ready to go. This Beretta is hidden in my living room and it will take a genius burglar to determine the drawer is actually a drawer.

Oh, yes, it's not a good picture, there is no step slide, it is smooth and has grooves.

I thought the S in 92S meant it had the safety decocker, perhaps for a U.S. contract or something. Whatever; I really like these 3 I have. 15 + 1 in the 92S. Plenty for a home cellar gun; on that side of the cellar. Is that OP gun "as new in box" or just a darned nice condition gun?

Edit to add: Dmar was talking about the nice trigger on the 92S; the one on the Model 81, .32, is almost invisible to the touch, if that makes sense. Nice guns.
