Hello all:

I was seriously thinking of getting into the 9mm game. Not for carrying just for plinking because it is so much cheaper and available than the other center fire calibers.

I saw a Beretta 92s Italian Police trade in for $269. I know that is about what they are worth on the market, no news there. It also has the magazine release at the bottom, no news there.

What I wanted to know from all of y'all (notice I talk South'ren?) is, are the guns any good or not, the brand not the trade ins. That of course is the luck of the draw.

Feedback, good, bad, or ugly if you please.

Thanks, :D

There is a very long thread on the Beretta forum about them. The general consensus is very positive.

I think if I ran across one locally for that price I'd take it home.

If you want a reliable, slightly large and very high quality 9 mm, you can't go wrong at this price. The company has only been around since 1526 so they won't offer a lifetime warranty :).

Wonderful pistols!

I have had four of the 92 series.

The 92S pistols that are flooding the market now are a little different. Besides the mag release being on the bottom of the left grip as mentioned by the OP, the safety is only on one side of the slide. The mags are slightly different, too - but I believe modern mags can be made to work.

No matter what, I think a genuine Italian made Beretta 9mm is a steal at $269.

A Beretta for $270 is a great deal.

Beretta is a darn good manufacturer, one of the best.

I had a Beretta Cougar in .40 caliber and I liked it. I had two other .40s at that point so I traded it off. But I thought it was very well made.

I have a 92s and it is a wonderful pistol! The finish (bluing) is so much nicer and deep compared to the ones currently being produced today. The slide is extremely smooth, like it's on ball bearings. I love mine and it is probably my favorite pistol to shoot!

The Beretta 92S is a pistol in the normal European vain with the mag release in the heel. They are as reliable as later 92Fs and have a blued finish since they're much older pistols. They were replaced by the 92SB and later 92F.

Beretta's are well made and at least with regards to my personal 92FS, reliable and accurate. That being said, you might also consider a used CZ-75b as it offers at least the same value as the Beretta with the additional benefit of condition one (cocked and locked) if you decide to carry and want that option.
