Anyone own a px4 full/compact/sub-compact and if you do how do you like it. I know its apples to oranges but how do they compare to the m&p line.

My son speaks highly of his issued a PX4D Storm as an issued service pistol. I've never shot one personally.

I owned a PX4 Full Size chambered in .40 S&W (pictured below) and have shot a full size, compact, and sub-compact 9mm.

Good

  • Rotating barrel radially dissipates a portion of the recoil energy, leading to less perceived recoil.
  • Rotating barrel design does not tilt, decreasing muzzle flip.
  • Softest shooting .40 S&W I've owned. Shooting 9mm is cream-puff soft.
  • Since the barrel does not need to tilt, the magazines feed nearly inline with the barrel. I never had a failure to feed.
  • Brunitron finish is like Teflon.
  • Chrome plated barrel.

Average
  • Trigger. It's neither good nor bad.
  • DA trigger pull. It's heavy as expected, but not horrendous.
  • SA trigger pull. Light just like any other decent SA trigger.
  • Adjustable backstrap. Nice to have, but other pistols adjust backstrap and side/palmswell panels.
  • Stock 3-dot sights are usable. Nothing to write home about.

Gripes
  • Slide mounted safety. I find it awkward to engage and disengage.
  • Slide mounted safety. It flares out toward the muzzle. Combine the slick Teflon like finish with a power stroke. Slip and your hand digs into the forward flared safety levers.
  • Rotating barrel is great, BUT make sure to put some grease on the locking lug and the locking lug channel in the barrel.

Overall, I find the PX-4 Storm to be above average. Keep in mind the full size and compact have the rotating barrel. They're the ones that feel different from other pistols with a Browning style tilt action. The PX-4 sub-compact has a traditional tilt barrel. If you're looking for a sub-compact, buy anything but the PX-4 subcompact.

We run several in our range rental cabinet and I can't remember having a problem with them. The compact is a really good feeling pistol and the ones I have shot were accurate and ran great. If you're looking for a great plastic pistol do yourself a favor and shoot a Walther PPQ M1 in 9mm. The one on my desk has over 4000 rounds through it and it has never been cleaned. I got it a couple of years ago to see how it held up compared to Glocks & M&P's and perpously have not cleaned it. It has not missed a lick, has the best trigger and shortest reset of all the poly guns. When we let a customer pick one up for the first time we usually hear "wow that feels good" and it does. Walther got this gun right!!

I have a the subcompact in 9mm. Very soft shooting; a natural pointer but I find it a bit nose heavy. Good fit & finish; flawless operation with average accuracy. My personal assessment is it's OK but nothing special.

The PX4 slide safety is difficult to operate without slicing your thumb.

The best version of the PX4 is the "C" model, which stands for "Constant Action." The "F" version operates like the M9 (DA/SA with safety/decocker), the "G" version operates like the 92G (DA/SA with decocker only), the "C" model has no safety/decocker and has the same short, light trigger pull on each shot, and the "D" model has a heavy DAO pull on each shot.

Because the slide safety/decocker on the PX4 is such an unfortunate design, the only model in this series that is suitable for fast use without cutting up your hands is the Constant Action "C" model.

Unfortunately, Beretta seems to have discontinued the "C" model, or they only make it on special order. Too bad, as it has a better trigger action than the Glock.

Thanks all for the reply. If I can get away from the honey-do-list or if it rains again I was going to go check them out

The PX4 SC 9mm is one of 2 pistols I CC .. the other a 40c.

Have had it for just over a year. My trigger in it is much better then my 40c which is terrible stock .. never have had it checked but guessing right at 5-6 pound . Has a very evident reset both felt and heard and the trigger has a nice crisp break with little over travel .. Trigger travel is about what a stock MP is. Comes with 3 back straps for grip adjustments. It is a DA/SA and the hammer can be cocked for the first shot . They make an extended mag and something like the X-Grip to fill in the extra space. The Sub Compact comes in 9mm and .40S&W, and the full size also in 45ACP. The Sub Compact doesn't have the rotating barrel like the compact and full size does .

I'm carrying my 40c right now and the PX4 is my bedroom weapon with a Viridian CL5 light and laser attached to it.

Its stubby and stocky .. some wouldn't like the weight but I do. Over all I like it and shoot it as well as I do the MP. Shoots POA and recoil seems light compared to other 9mm, which may be attributed to the weight. The slide at first is quite stiff very much like S&W's

Now the BAD .. Some don't like the Batwing Safety/De-cocker and can make racking the slide difficult for some according to your method . The safety moves in the opposite direction as the many other safeties on pistols which some will find difficult to get use too and could become a big problem in a SD situation when muscle memory comes to play and you have always been use to moving the safety in the opposite direction. .. there is a model with out the safety though. With the safety/de-cocker you can't carry lock and loaded.. I carry hammer down safety off ..

I was able to handle a full sized px 4 and it felt good , I can see what it meant by the safety being a bit sharp. I did notice that Beretta does sell a more compact safety that allows you to convert it to a g model ( de cock only) . I am on the look out for a c or d model just to check out the trigger
