Gentlemen,
I have a Springfield .45 'Loaded" which has been mildly customized which is extremely accurate. I have had good luck with Kimber stainless 7rd mags in it but am looking for 8rd mag ideas from those who have used them in their Springfield .45 1911's. These would be used in mostly IDPA shooting. Let me know which have been reliable in your Springfields.
Thanks for your time,
Jim

Hahaha, wow. Follow up question, which beer is a good one? :D

Just my way of saying that there are MANY out there and most are pretty good. Some swear on Wilson 47D and the ETM. My best shooting bro is much more a 1911 guy than me and his favorite are the Tripp Cobra mags. I’ve had fine service in both my Springfield 1911’s pistols with ACT mags, Chip McCormick Shooting Star and Metalform brand magazines.

I use mostly CMC and Wilson for carry and competition no troubles with either in any of my 1911s, including Springfields.

While working patrol/weapons team, I used the Chip McCormick 8 round Power Mags in my Springfield Pro w/ light rail. I ran Federal 230 HST's and some 230 Ball with no malfunctions. Total rounds through each one of the four mags was approximately 400+. No signs of significant wear.

I still shoot with these mags occasionally, again with no malfunctions.

HTH.

I used a Springfield mild custom in IPSC for several years. I had no issues with Chip McCormick and Wilson.

When I gave my 3 sons a 1911 for their 21 birthdays They got 4 mags in the kit. 3 Chip McCormick Shooting Star for every day use, and one Wilson as a control (to diagnose malfunctions). My sons are now scattered across the country and have shot thousand of rounds Through the Shooting Star mags without any mag related stoppages. The Wilson's remain unused for any reason! My carry 45's that use Government Model mags all get CMC (the compact a holds 6+1 so the 8 round CMC is for the reload).
I don't just trust my own life to them, Whatever legacy I have is protected by 45ACP, J.M.Browning's 1911 design, with Chip McCormick's magazines!

I've have 8 and 10 round Checkmate mags that have been flawless in Springfields, Sig and S&W 1911's. I have read where they're the OEM mags for Sig, Colt, Ruger and SA. Don't know how true that is.
I ran a SA 9mm range officer in IDPA using Metalform 10 round mags and never had a issue.

Over 50 years using the M1911 pistols in the Army, as a cop, now as an old retired guy. I have used just about every magazine offered during those years, and none are perfect for every pistol or every use. Best of the bunch without a doubt in my mind is the Wilson Combat 47D.

Gentlemen,
Thanks so much for your replies! I was trained in boot camp in San Diego with 1911's and M1 Garands in 1965 and have never been with out a 1911 of some kind since. I was stationed on the USS Taylor DD 468 out of Pearl and on the way to 'Nam in '67 and '68 the gunners mates would have all the divisions report to the fantail over several days to practice with the 1911's we had on board. Thought some of you might find that interesting. Again, thanks for all the replies! They will give me good ideas to think over.
Thanks again,
Jim

Wilson - best product for the cost. Tripp/Cobra - great but pricey. CMC/McCormick never had a bad one. Overall, grab the Wilson's and get to shooting.

My ATI 1911 came with 1 ACT-MAG and when I ordered the gun I bought 4 more, which turned out to be Mec Gar 8 rounders. All those work fine; no problems. And when I bought my ACW Prime Elite last year, it came with 5 ACT-MAG brand mags and all 5 of those work just fine too. And I tried the Mec Gar mags in the Prime Elite and they worked just fine there also.

Colt & Wilson Combat are some of the better ones but I also have a bunch of USGI versions (brand unknown) and they have always worked just fine. Most of the ones I use to use in 1911 competition are Colt marked - never had any issues.

I use Novak and Nighthawk Custom in both My 1911 SC and Kimber Aegis. All feed flawlessly with Both. Ball and HP’s. I carry extra 6 Mags for each in PC soft cases when on the Road. I’ve also had good Luck with Wilson Combat.

I think the better question is what mags don't work well or are unreliable in your 1911. Bad 1911 mags for me have been few and far between.
