When Springfield first started making 1911s, their first one was a fairly faithfull copy of a government 1911A1, similar to the one they started making again in recent times. That one went with me every time I went to the range no matter what I intended to shoot that day the Springfield got a few rounds through it. I have several Colts of various vintage including a GCNM, and some race guns, but the old warhorse is still my favorite. I bet I put 20 or 30 thousand rounds through it. I never had to replace any parts except for mag springs or mags. The parkerizing was pretty kaput. Not pretty, not very accurate, but went bang each and every time I pulled the go lever. Sadly, in a fit of insanity and wanting the funds for a new gun I sold it a couple of years ago. Worst gun mistake I ever made and I wish I had it back.

Swiss SIG P210 with factory heavy recoil spring; never jams, very accurate when I do my part. Sigarms P239 9mm, Glock 26 with Wolff recoil spring and rod, NY trigger. Being practically rustproof, small, accurate enough, dependable, the Glock gets carried the most. Larry

I also have a penchance for 1911's and I do like certain things done to them by a good competent Smith which I know and trust.
I like short GI triggers, Arched mainspring, Heine Slant-Pro sights, Wilson guts, lowered and flared port.
I like long safety releases and extended mag releases.

The best-hands down is the 4506 followed by the HK USP-C 45. My old Sig P220(German made) was right up there but like an idiot, I traded it thinking they'd always be around. Lessons learned.

I've got three bottom feeders, all of them stellar.

A W. German Sig P220 that I've challenged since I bought it in 1987 with every and any bullet weight, configuration and composition and all loads from mouse fart to +P+. I do not recall a jam, FTF, FTRB. I point and click and it goes bang. Special note, this P220 saved myself and my family one dark and lonely night - no shots fired, everyone went home safe but the BG's sure didn't like the look of it. It also went with me to my wife's hospital after the Quake of 89 here in the S.F. Bay Area and stood guard until security relieved me that night with a big thanks from the doctors and nurses.

A Dan Wesson CBOB I found that is not only totally reliable, it's as accurate as the day is long. I had a Kimber that was unsatisfactory and sold it to get the CBOB for a straight across swap. I came out on the better end of that deal.

A Ruger Mk II. What can I say? This pistol has introduced a bunch of nuggets to the shooting world. I works every time the trigger is pulled and puts the bullet exactly where you point it. Only ammo it doesn't like is Remington, but that's not surprising since it's pretty much universally reviled. Shoots WWB as a staple and loves it.

A czeck cz75 that I bought in West Germany from the rod and gun club in Bamberg.It has by far the best trigger and this is coming from a guy who would marry a 2nd or 3rd gen smith if they were a woman.

Seem to remember about 1986 or 87. Rattles a little if you shake it just like John Browning meant it to and will put 8 shots into a 2" group @ 25 or so yards. Well back when I could see anyway. It has always been reliable even with HPs.

I own lots of semi autos, Sig Sauers, Browning HPs, Glocks, 1911s, and many others, but the best of the best is a Danish M49 that I bought in 1971 and paid $175.00 for the gun, canvas holster and ten factory magazines. $175.00 was a lot of money back then, but its been worth it. The best semi auto pistol I've ever owned.

I have exactly one 1911. A Norinco with some moderate custom touches done myself when I first got into guns. It's the "best" bottom feeder I have, but the HiPower is VERY close behind, and gaining.

5904 S&W, had it 20 plus years only fail to feed I ever had was with some cheap China 9mm gun show ammo and it fed 98% of those. Feels like an old friend.

Colt Series 70 Colt Govt, fantastic.
Colt LW Commander, carry gun some of the time. Accurate and hasn't failed me yet.

Building a relationship with these two at the moment both have been flawless:

I love the older High Standards! Ive never owned one for myself but I would have to say that my uncles old 22 is one of the best ive ever shot.

Browning Hipower for me, years of dependable service. However I have had the urge for about a year for a firearm in dark earth or desert tan and just last week got a S&W M&P VTAC and it sure is growing on me. Shoots well and I love the look of it. God Bless.
