In New Jersey? That's right. Owner of the place traveled to TX to learn how. He must have been a good student with an excellent teacher.

Name or location requested, please! Northern NJ here... Have no BBQ places around here that fit the bill. Hard to believe, actually! Thanks in advance.

Texas Smoke BBQ

When I walked in the door the aroma was heavenly.

It is a dry rub BBQ. They will provide sauce on the side, but I didn't find it necessary. Fall off the bone tender. And these are the larger ribs not the baby back. It is a small place, only two tables. I took mine back to the hotel and had them.

Were there yummy noises coming from your hotel room? Thanks for the link, I'm planning to head over there as soon as tomorrow to try those St. Louis style ribs. I'm less than 20 miles from them. Thanks again.

Texas BBQ

Is only one thing... BEEF BRISKET anything else, well it may be good but it's not Texas BBQ...

I learned that in College Station in the '80's but if there are native Texans with opposing views, please correct me.

One BBQ place in CS is now closed had great BBQ but his "tour de force" was his mesquite smoked chicken. Blackened skin, fall of the bone tender and finger licking good! But he did not call it BBQed ..

I had to call them the next day to let them know how much I enjoyed the ribs. The beans and slaw I had were good. The slaw was a little different than I'm used to. Bigger cut, and the lady said there was buttermilk in it.

North Louisville had a regionally famous bbq shack in Jeffersonville, just down from the hospital. Tex's BBQ. Old black man named Tex Redd that did lg size ribs and chicken in a hickory firepit. Put his homemade sauce on after it cooked. One man show, cash only. He was in business from the 60s til about 1990. In the mid 80s I rented an old gas station I owned to Tex's nephew and wife and they started a bbq joint. Lillies BBQ knocked em dead for about 15 years and then they wore out and it closed up. Can't get any decent bbq around here now unless I do it myself.

We're blessed with so many good BBQ places here in Memphis, you can't throw a cat without hitting one of them. In fact, every year in May, we host the largest outdoor BBQ contest in the world. It lasts four days and teams come from all over the world to compete.

Let's see. Eat championship BBQ and take a trip to Graceland. What else would you want to do on vacation? Thank ya, Thank ya very much... :D

Chicken n 'mo

Every time I cruise through there I get his briskett and a couple of bottles of sauce to go. Awesome.

Well I finally visited the BBQ joint Bubbiesdad suggested, and I'll give a thumbs up. Not knowing what to select, I went for a half rack of St. Louis ribs and the sampler containing pulled pork, chopped brisket, & smoked chicken. Sides selected were the baked beans, mac and cheese, and Spanish rice. Tried both the mild and spicy sauces. The verdict is: ribs with spicy sauce were my favorite, along with the beans, which were flavored with their mild/sweet sauce. SWMBO liked the brisket with spicy sauce best and the Spanish rice. We enjoyed dinner with a Utica Club beer from upstate NY. Although a bit of a haul to get to and bring back, this place certainly goes on the rotation for the "let's get something different for dinner tonight" evenings. Many thanks for the recommendation and the new experience, Sir!

Its good to know that I'm amonst fellows who know the true meaning of having good bbq. Living on the western slope of Colorado, good bbq is something not to be taken for granted. Gotta a place is Durango call Serious Texas BBQ and man is it good. I'm looking for a reason to go to Durango, soon.

If you're ever on US 23 about a mile south of Jackson, GA stop in at Fresh Air BBQ. I can remember going there with my grandfather when I was about 6 or 7. The place was established in 1929 and I think some of those hams have been smoking ever since. They don't have ribs or chicken or anything except chopped bbq with a vinegar sauce. You can get it by the sandwich, by the pound or a bbq plate with chips, cole slaw, brunswick stew and a slice of white bread. And unlike some places who sell it separately, they include the crispy outer part when they chop it. I took some to work in Jacksonville once and my supervisor said, "Man, that's so good it'll make you wanna jump up and slap your grandma." I guess that meant he approved of it.
