Shooting 230 grain FMJ ammo for target practice in a S&W 1911 in .45acp. Which would you rather have? Remington or Winchester?

I bought a large supply of each today. At this time, I cannot tell any difference in them. Accuracy is about the same but I only ran 25 or so of each down range.

Just wondering if others had an opinion.

Even though I have shot far more W-W ammo in my life than R-P ammo, I have had far more case failures with the R-P brass. The only dead primer in factory ammo I have ever had was R-P, in a .223 cartridge. W-W brass holds up to more reloadings than R-P in my experience.

The only time I buy R-P brass or loaded ammo now is when it isn't made by anyone else, like .22 Remington Jet or .45 Auto Rim used to be.

If I have the choice between W-W, Federal and R-P, the R-P is consistently my third pick. In fact, it is fourth if Speer is thrown into the mix.

I agree with Buff. It seems that Winchester's quality control is much better than Remington's. As far as accuracy, I can't tell much difference.

Cheap doesn't mater if its not reliable.

I've had so many problems with R-P and had to return items for credit just too many times.

If it was free and said R-P on it, I would decline.

I have shot several thousands of both over the years.

Never had any problems with either one.

I can say the same for Federal 230gr ball as well.

Unless there is huge price difference, I would go with the Winchester. I have not had good luck with Remington ammunition over the years. Other than an occasional unprimed .22lr (Wildcat - promotional ammo) round, the Winchester stuff has been 100% for me. Federal is good stuff also.

I've never had problems with Remington ammo, I'm surprised to hear so many complaints. I have bought more Remington over the years than Winchester because of availability and price. I like both as well as Federal and would use almost anything for practice ammo.
