It seems to be a little challenging to find the right custom grips for the Ruger Redhawk.

For those of you who own Redhawks, what custom grips have you found for actual shooting that work the best for you? Is checkering recommended for a magnum revolver? Do you have pictures you would like to post?

I'm interested in grips for shooting that are more comfortable and practical than the original factory grips.

I was considering Herrett's Ropers, or Shooting Stars. Both of these grips have open backstraps.

The least expensive grips are the Pachmayr Grippers, however, they are too big for my hand. I tried the Nill grips, which seem very good, however, they require fitting. I didn't want to attempt to fit them and possibly damage a pair of expensive grips.

Any advise would be helpful.

I found these for my 5" "HAWKS" but I keep looking for some Tylers to go with them. Shown before, but since you ask.:D

I have a 5 1/2" stainless in 44 mag. It currently wears the original
grips and pounds the web of my hand with every shot. I see the
Redhawk as a hunting gun and have only fired full power loads in it so
far. I also tried the Pachmayr Grippers and put them on and removed
them without firing a shot. Just too big for my hands. I haven't found
any solution yet. Maybe a padded shooting glove.

I have Nill's on mine and no fitting required? I absolutely love them; and much like you it took several sets from different manufacturers before I found something I really liked.

Anyone make goodyears for a Redhawk? Seems like that may be the way to go......

I always kinda wanted one (in .45 Colt) but every time I've picked one up I've changed my mind. That is one heavy hunka steel!

The only marking inside are AJE over India , so it would seem they came from Art Jewel Enterprises. They are now part of Eagle Grips. Doesn't look like they make 'em anymore.

Pachmayr makes several different models for the Redhawk. Hogue and Uncle Mikes also make rubber grips.

I have tried the following for my Redhawk and still just go back to the original walnut factory grips. They are comfortable for my hand and look great.
1. Pachmayr Gripper Grips: Good cushioning but too bulky and slippery with sweaty hands.
2. Factory with Tyler-T adapter: Never felt right. T-grips for Ruger (#8) gave an odd finger groove shape.
3. Stag grips (shaped to original): These feel and look amazing. I love them but sometimes feel they're too fancy for just plinking or hunting.
4. Factory walnut with Ruger emblem: They feel good, wider than S&W N frame stocks. I just wish they had the checkering that you find on the Security Six factory grips.

Hi A-10,
I have "Presentations" on mine.
I had several sets of cool looking grips for it but the only time I get it out is for pin matches and it seems easier to shoot fast with the Pachmayr's

When I bought my Redhawk, someone had installed Hogue Monogrips on it. It shot very nicely but I didn't care for the look, so I bought the Hogue Bantams, shown below. They probably aren't as comfortable as the Monogrips but still shoot very nicely and look better in my opinion.

Ordered "made to measure" Herrett Trooper grips back in the mid-1980's, and never looked back. For the range I switch to My old faithful, Pachmayr Grips.
Those Herrett grips accompanied Me and the Redhawk on many a day hunting White-tailed Deer, and Black Bears.
