Never had to worry about a IWB until recently. I did not have to worry about concealed carry. ;) I have a IWB that i used for a few hrs at a time but I'm looking for something that in can wear for a 8+ hours in north central Texas dry heat. I'm a few hrs from the panhandle on the Red. I'm 5'11 245 with a little love handle. Thinking back side would be best. So, what are your thoughts. If you can leave me a name and model so I can research what y'all recommend. I can Google this all day but would rather have a personal opinion from a chl holder.

Edit.... I should have added that the holster is for a .40 shield.

Don't know if your build precludes this, but I only use an old Bianchi suede clip pouch for IWB/2" J-frame carry. Vegas summers are hot and dry like yours. There are better and more $ rigs, but they're often thicker.

You'll probably be a little uncomfortable no matter what you get so I would concentrate on which ones protect your gun best from sweat. Ironically, they're called sweat protectors. Usually an option on most holsters.
Galco makes one they " call" a Summer Comfort model. It's minimal size and well made but there are thinner ones.

A High Noon Holsters Down Under in horse hide with belt clip would work very well for you. Horse hide is very sweat resistant, durable and yet comfortable. Bill

The Shield is great for IWB carry. Do yourself a favor and stick to leather from a well known and established maker. Look at Milt Sparks, Kramer, Broomeland, and 5 Shot. They all make high quality IWB holsters. I personally have used Milt Sparks and Broomeland and was completely satisfied with their work.

Horse hide for sure if you go leather - Crossbreed I know do horse hide and have one hell of a reputation. Maybe a minimal Kydex if it's going to get really sweaty.

I've got a Shield 9mm, use a Kusiak IWB Leather with the attached mag pouch. Single clip allows carry anywhere from appendix to 4 o'clock. Originally got it for warm weather carry. Use it pretty much all year round now.

I have a similar build, 235 and 6'. I go between a 642 and a Glock 26, depending on what I am wearing. I have a Galco "Summer Comfort" for each. I wear between 4 and 5 o'clock.
I have some kind of lining beneath the holster itself (tank top, tshirt) so I do not know how it would without that. have worn under shirts since the service.
I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, so we have more humidity I bet than your area, and they do fine for me. Wore the Jframe model on vacation to Florida without much discomfort. Since they worked, I never experimented with anything different. I also run the Galco ankle holster with the 642 without the 'garter' without issues with the sock below it. The way summer is in Texas, I know the holster is there, but I wouldn't term it as discomfort by any means. YMMV

Three suggestions: (1) horsehide will stand up to humidity and perspiration much better than cowhide, (2) a T-shirt under the holster will help reduce chafing of the skin during use, (3) make sure you remove your handgun after each day's use, wipe it down thoroughly, and store separately from the holster (the leather will absorb salty perspiration and hold it forever).

I have a Little Foxx arriving today for my Shield 40. Minimal surface area, single wide kydex clip so versatile positioning. I'm in central TX and hoping it'll be good for summer carry, or at least more comfortable than a full size IWB.

I live in NE Texas. I carry a 9MM shield in an Alien Gear Holster. I'm a big boned guy but rather stocky. The Alien gear holster did great for me last summer. The leather is thicker than most cross breed type holsters. Nothing is sweat proof totally in this humid heat but I was pleasantly suprised at just how well it worked for me. Only once did the sweat penetrate the leather but that was in the middle of july and I was driving T- Posts by hand and putting up a barbed wire fence. I had no sweat issues besides that particular day.

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely have some researching to do now. Keep them coming.

I have been carrying inside the pants since highschool.

The Milt Sparks Summer Special is the best IWB holster I have ever used.
I am wearing one right now...

Here is a BIG Hint, start buying ALL of your pants 2" bigger in the waist.

Makes inside the pants carry comfortable.

I would strongly recommend the N82 Pro.
Very comfortable even in the Texas heat.
