I bought a Beretta 92FS off of my son-in-law about 2 years ago. Everytime I see a magazine for it under $20.00 I buy it or them. Well, its’ too easy. I’m running out of room to store all of these magazines. Is the 92FS the best pistol out there with the cheapest magazines. BTW these are Beretta mags.

Cheapest quality magazine for a pistol would be one of the AR-15 pistols.

Can't beat 7 bucks for a new military contractor produced mag!

As far as real handguns, under 20 bucks fir first line mags is probablyu it. 24 bucks (wilson combat) for the 1911 platform would be next, IMHO.

Some of the Smith 9's have pretty cheap magazines. 1911's are not that pricey either. I use Pro-Mags in my Sig and they are around $10.00.

The absolutely best pistol with the best cheap magazines is the S&W Model 625. Quality full moon clips are $0.35 apiece when purchased in quantity.

BTW, revolvers fall into the general category of "pistols". 625's use a fixed, rotary, clip-loaded magazine. :D

GregCotellc sells factory S&W M&P mags for $25 any size. Not cheap but not too bad. I like his +5 extension grip that lets you use full size mags in compact M&Ps.

Amen to that, brother. I have a couple of 1917's, a Thunder Ranch 22-4, and, soon, a S&W Night Guard. I've also found the perfect loader and stripper for the moonclips, too. Take a look here... no more fuss, muss or cuts:

Deluxe Moon Clip Tool

Has anybody got experience with the polycarbonate clips?

J.P., you are so right about the moon clip tool. It sure has saved me a lot of frustration and sore thumbs:) I would advise against the poly clips. Haven't used them but a friend that has says nothing good about them.

Quit complaining and enjoy your Beretta and the inexpensive mags. :) But I'd stick to Beretta and Mec-Gar mags. My son spent some considerable time in Iraq and never had a problem with those. Some mags by other contractors did fail.

Change out your locking block maybe every 3.000 rounds, and you're good to go. I've read that current generation locking blocks may reach 20,000 or more rounds without failing, but most GI ones are the first generation. Check with Beretta for intervals to change springs, or ask on the Beretta board. One professional shooter there has had several M-92FS's exceed 100,000 rounds! But I have seen a photo there of a barrel that cracked badly with about that round count. I don't know how often the gun had been fired with hot loads. Or how the firing was paced. Competitors beat the heck out of guns! They may shoot as much in a week as normal people do in several years! That's hard on guns!

You have one of the most thoroughly tested and tried autopistols made, and it'll probably serve you well. And how many spare mags do you need?!

If you just want to add a reliable gun that doesn't cost a lot, get a CZ-75B. But you'll probably pay more for mags.

And old GI issue .45 mags used to be cheap. Maybe they still are.
