I have a 19-3 that is out of time. looks like I need a new hand. Should I call S&W and order another one or should I get an oversized hand somewhere else? Does S&W sell oversized hands or just replacement OEM hands? Where is the best place to get one at the best price?

If anyone has one that they want to get rid of, let me know. [email protected]

This should be obvious, but it doesn't seem to be. As with virtually any product try the manufacturer first. With the exception of after-market car parts virtually 100% of all parts for anything you can think of come from the original manufacturer. Try S&W first. 800-331-0852

I guess my question is, should I go with a standard hand or an oversized hand? I have been led to believe that when a S&W revolver gets out of time, you may need to replace the hand with a slightly wider one. I am newbie when it comes to internal parts on S&Ws.

The hand on my 66 broke and S&W sent me a new one. It didn't fit. It didn't even come close to fitting. I had to take it to one of their warranty centers nearby where I had them replace the hand.

Good Luck

Try SW first and then Numrich Gun Parts for a hand. If the gun has seen good use, I would buy the oversized hand. If it is too wide, you stone the left hand edge until it is what you need. If you buy the standard hand and it is too narrow, you can't put material on to widen it.

It is good to know what size the hand is now. Once you know that, you can decide if you need a std size hand, or a oversize hand. Depends on the amount of wear on the hand and the extractor teeth. Many times the std size hand will be all that is needed, but not always.
