Just wanting to see if any fellow DFW residents have any particular shops they frequent for used Smith's.

There are quite a few Gun Shops in the Metroplex; so instead of running all around town I thought that maybe some of us could jot down some of our favorite/most frequented shops in the ever elusive hunt for older S&W's!

Ray's Hardware & Sporting Goods: Pricey, but a wealth of knowledge and a huge selection of hard to find Firearms.

Gunmaster (Plano): Not the biggest shop, but their employees are nice and they tend to have a pretty good prices and turnover in the "used" cabinet.

Bullet Trap: Will not even go within a half mile radius of this stinkhole. Sky-high prices with a rude staff (don't even get me started on the range).

Ammo Depot (Caddo Mills): Mickey is a great guy with a lot of Milsurp rifles etc... Only problem is it's a 60 mile roundtrtip (for me).

So what are some of yall's favorite haunts?

I think McClelland's is still on Centerville Rd. in Garland or the Dallas/Garland border.

Good selection of new guns and some used. Average prices, as I recall. Gunsmithing, but pretty slow service. Good chance of finding Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski optics.

Owner (?) chews tobacco. Could do without that.

Only place where I've seen a .416 Rigby caliber CZ rifle for sale, new.

Jackson Armory in Snider Plaze, near SMU. Fantastic assortment of collectible and new guns. High prcies. Nice area in the Park Cities. Not to be confused with the former Jackson Arms on Hillcrest, long out of business.

I don't think you can find good older/used S&Ws for a "reasonable price" anymore...most of them command a premium these days. I do occasionally find a good price at Wiley's Gun Shop in Wills Point. Small, rural shop out in the country...I've traded there for several years, and they usually have more used S&Ws than most other gun shops I have visited. Some of them are priced high, but on occasion you can find a gem that is priced right. I bought my 66-3 with 3" barrel, in good condition, there for $595. The last time I was in, they had several 3rd generation pistols and used revolvers, some priced pretty high and some seemed very reasonable.

Ken,

I too love driving out to Wiley's out in Wills Point, the fact that the Constable Precinct is attached to the store has to help with potential robberies huh? :D

If you're headed out to Wills Point, drop by Koning's Gun Shop (That's the old name I think they have a new one) in downtown Forney. It's a real old-timey gun shop (not many of those around anymore) The Old-Timer's in there are a hoot, plus they're out in the country a little more so you tend to see some older guns not readily seen in DFW.

Jackson Armory has perhaps the best selection of C&R and other rare firearms in the state, but with being in Highland Park....the prices are more often than not a little out of my reach.
