best truck in the U.S.?

in the US .... no idea what the best is .... but the best truck in the world ... Toyota Hilux hands down.
Topgear UK obtained a prebeaten specimen of this down under wonder, drove it down stairs, through places it probably couldn't fit, drown it in the English channel set fire to it and finally set it atop a condemned building slated for demolition where it was blown up .... then DROVE it into their studio under its own power and gave it's twisted remains a prominent place of honor on the set.
Another Hilux was modified to float, fitted with an obscene outboard motor and driven to France across the English Channel. later they obtained a new production Hilux which they drove from Canada to the north pole.
they are automotive immortality incarnate whos legacy cannot be topped by any offering at any price.
You could get one, however you will have to import it from Australia

Try and find a used Toyota, especially a 4X4. They are almost nonexistent. Even if you do find one the cost is almost twice that of a Ranger or S-10. If you want a good used Toyota you need to buy it new and make it used.

My 2007 Tacoma 4x4 has only 141,000 on it, so at about an average of 28,000 miles yearly, I may consider selling it in few years, maybe sooner if it needs any seriously expensive maintenance, which by and large it has not, nor have any of the previous four or five similar trucks, which all went to +/- 200K without wearing out... You can't find 'em because we keep 'em ...

one word - Raptor

Unless you're talking about towing a 50KW generator and need max towing power, then there is only one and there happens to be one parked in my driveway - Ford SVT Raptor, 6.2L, 6-speed, 35" BF Goodrich rubber, Fox Racing shocks with 12" travel all the way around, locking diff, Off-Road mode, Descent Control mode, 7" wider than F-150 so it requires the DOT LED markers, Microsoft SYNC, Sirius radio/weather/traffic, GPS, Sony subwoofer and sound system... Stock from Ford with a warranty. Beats all the other trucks I've owned and I've had many. Prior to the Raptor, I drove a Lincoln MarkLT...

The Toyota doesn't hold a candle to the Raptor and the Toy Boys leave by far more slobber while they are gawking than any other single group.

I don't even see 1 a week usually, and I drive 120 miles or more a day. Mine is a white 2010. Funny now that I see Jessie James driving one down there in Austin, TX on his new hot-rod show and the guy on the Fast N Loud show drives one too. Copycats...

Catching 2 feet of air going 90mph down a dirt road is no problem. Don't try that in your grandpa's Chevy 1500. Mine is the white and my buddy has the black one.

It may not be the best, but I love my Dodge Ram 1500 'cause it's mine. It'll be even better when I paint it copperish burnt orange. Hook'em Horns.

So, may we fairly assume that "catching air", an elaborate sound system, and etc. , does not put you among the abusers of rural roads, speeders, reckless drivers, and players of obnoxiously loud music of dubious taste, the likes of whom I must suffer when I drive the Apache Trail and elsewhere in rural Arizona? I hope so... I have no patience with testosterone-tainted show-offs who hang their hats on their conspicuous consumption of hardware. Some of these idiots nearly kill me (and themselves... and others) nearly every weekend outing. "Professional Driver/Closed Course" as the inane automotive TV ads disclaim, are the only set of circumstances when these sorts of driving behaviors are not endangering others.

I think the OP was a query about the durability of trucks. I think your reply was non-responsive to the question...

I've had a couple of every All American trucks over the years and my current truck - '05 Super Duty Power Stroke is my favorite so far. I also have a '95 GMC with a 6.5 in it that is a real hoss, but it's a Plain Jane bucket truck and the Ford is a Lariat.

I think that my previous fav was a 1960 Chevy LWB 1/2 ton with an inline 6.
My second favorite engine after the 6.0 was (believe it or not) a Dodge 225 Slant Six. Sweet sounding strong motor!

My 2000 GMC Sierra SLT has over 120K on it. It has towed 3500# Mercedes from as far away as 1000 miles at least a dozen times and is as comfortable as any Benz I own or restore. It has had exactly one issue in that time and there was no question as to whether to fix or sell. I fixed it in a heartbeat. It will go another 120K. By then it and the E500 should both have 250K on them.

Try as I might-I just can't get comfortable in a Ford so Chevy it is. Have a 1999 Suburban with 335,000 miles and paid for so until it finally breaks enough for me to decide not to repair, I will drive it. Next vehicle is gonna be tough-will either be a crew cab toyota/Chevy or if I can find a good deal on a used one, another Suburban. I just can't wrap my self around the prices they want for a new one though-I just ain't gonna pay 45,000 for a Suburban.
My truck needs to drive smooth on the highway and occasional headlane, be able to navigate a boat ramp and tow at least 6k. Am well past the point where I need to catch air though.
