Best way to ship a handgun to a gunsmith?

Hi,

I need to get my Smith to a Smith and was just wondering the best way to do it and how often weapons get stolen when shipped?:eek:

They do 2nd day service for me and sometimes if they know they cant meet that schedule, it goes regular. Their policy and not a law.
 
Find a LGS, some are reasonable some are not, check around. Usually they ship USPS Priority Mail insured with signature required.

My guy charges $10. plus postage. Usually comes out to about $40 for a $1000. gun
 
Maybe the gunsmith in question can have it picked up on their account.
 
Ship it UPS or FedEx over insure it. USPS is probably the best way to get it stolen.
 
I simply ship with FedEx. No FFL required. Get enough insurance. No need to be forthcoming about the nature of the item. Last time I shipped I went with "antique metal artwork". There is no obligation to identify contents , unless classified as hazardous - like ammo.

It is not an explosive ; it is inert.

You can ship through a licensed dealer if paying them to be responsible for the item makes you more comfortable. I prefer to ship myself .
