Better Than a Rock.?

I knew two cops killed by .25 autos, less than a day apart. One was on a dope raid, fully vested up. The bad guy got off a shot and hit the cop just above the vest as he leaned forward. The shooter died in a barrage of return fire, the officer died on the operating table.

The other was a young patrolman investigating a prowler call. He opened a shed in a backyard, and a nutcase fired a single .25 ACP FMJ into his chest, killing him almost instantly. The PD didn't provide vests, and didn't pay much - the young guy was saving for a vest and trying to pay the bills.

A .25 wouldn't be my first choice, but it sure beats a rock.

Relationship concerns aside, yes it is better than a rock.

I've seen a lot more folks killed with .25s than rocks. Some dropped right away and some not. One guy was shot in the eye and was sitting up speaking to the ER doc!

Also, there are no guarantees you wouldn't empty the 5 shot J frame into an assailant and him say "what the hell was that?" as well. That said, I'd much, much rather carry the M-36 with the LHPs.

I vividly recall an incident where a very well endowed lady was being interviewed in the beating death of her ....ah, business manager. During an altercation over money, he emptied a .25 into her mammeries. X-rays at the hospital showed that none of the rounds made it to the ribcage.

There were a wide variety of .25 BUGs available for $5 for several months. Coroners Inquest and DA passed on that one.

Your attitude will also help the situation should she bring it up (and not you - let her be the one to mention it). Be confident in your gun and it's ability to keep you both safe. Don't apologize and look sheepish; neither be arrogant and bullying about carrying it. Your attitude is this is a lifesaving tool that you are proficient with, confident about carrying and using if necessary.

Very well said Barb. A healthy attitude is an essential element of concealed carry.

I say this in all seriousness, I'd find another lady.

If you are that polarly opposed on so strong an issue, I don't see either giving way.

Without giving any relationship advice, here's my dos centavos: Carry the 36, and dress to it. Back before CHL laws, I toyed with various .25s, including the supposedly-reliable Beretta 950. EVERY one had malfunctions, so even without regard to "stopping power" issues, there's the matter of reliability. (FWIW, I then settled on a Freedom Arms .22 mag. mini-revolver, about which there is another thread here.)

At one time, there was a .25 round called, I believe, "MSC." It was loaded with a bronze hollowpoint weighing around 29 grains, and was hot. No expansion was intended or really even possible, the hollowpoint rather being for "bite" into bone. They had a tendency to cavitate and tumble in flesh. I once worked on a product liability case wherein an off-duty cop shot himself in the leg with a little FIE .25 loaded with MSC, and the wound was pretty horrific, especially for a .25. (He tried to make us believe it was .25 ball-we found out to the contrary. Only ball was authorized for off-duty carry under his department regs.) Unfortunately, that ammo has not been made for years, and I know of no .25 ammo that should be considered as much better than a rock.
