Im taking a hard look at a couple of scopes for the M&P 15 .22 The Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC was the first to catch my eye because of the BDC but at the same time the Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3-9x40 really sounds like a better scope. Or would you guys forget both and go a diffrent route?

The Nikon prostaff xcopes are clear and function well, however they are the bottom product of Nikons lineup of scopes. I have owned several and had no problems with them. I would pass on the BDC feature as this is best suited for centerfire cartridge rifles. I shoot ground sqirrels with my 15-22 and a 100 - 150 yards is the longest shot on small critters you can take, but we sometimes try to stretch that distance with not a lot of success. I have a Leupold 3x9 on mine but I have a mildot crosshair which helps me hold for elevation and windage but its more of a guessing game. Not sure if the target version, but if it has an adjustable objective or side focus with target turrets I would certainly give it a try. You didn't say what the primary use will be, plinking ,target or shooting critters.

JC,
Thanks for the heads up on that scope hadn't looked on the Nikon site lately but just checked and that is a nice feature for a 22 scope! I was also curious about that target scope and it is real nice and the reticle has a dot which I really like. Maybe time to swap out my Leupold for one of these newer Nikons.

I have a Vortex Viper 3-9X40.
I think it is a very nice scope.
