Any die hard pepper fans here? I ordered 4 bhut jolokia pepper plants (Naga Jolokia pepper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) earlier this summer and the first ones finally turned red this week. I was removing the seeds for next year and decided just to lick the juice off the knife...hmmm, not too bad, then it hit. After 15 minutes of sucking on what felt like brimstone the roof of my mouth went numb, the heat lasted for a good half hour before subsiding. Eventually the tears dried up and sweat evaporated (at least my nasal passages are clear!) - what an endorphin rush! I've now been eating the fleshy parts in small slivers, it's got a pungent taste similar to habaneros, but with a bigger attitude!

I love hot stuff but in the last couple of years the hot stuff has not loved me. How do you spell indigestion? The hotter it is the worse it is.
That said, if it's hotter than hananeros I'd just as well leave them alone.

bet you have blisters in the top of your mouth. a lot of the oriental peppers are unreal hot. sneaky too, don't realize the heat until it's too late.

ahh, the ghost chili, mix some up in your spaghetti to surprise your friends. in all seriousness though, those can be pretty painful. i stick with my habaneros, datyl, and jalapenos when i need heat, my favorite pepper taste is cayenne though. yum. (on a side note im 24 years old and already need gallbladder surgery)

Love spicy seasoned food. I do NOT like hot for hot's sake. I do love peppers but my tolerance stops at Jalepoenos- I have discovered (yea I'm not too bright ) that removing the seeds and the white stuff in the Jalepoeno renders them remarkably harmless but still with a nice tang. I love to fire roast a bunch and dip them in ranch dressing as a stand alone snack. That there pepper you describe sounds a bit too hot for this girlie man

I like peppers too, but not when the pain threshold is crossed -sounds like those are a bit beyond my tolerance.

My favorites are serranos and habaneros. If I want more heat than that, I'll just get a cop friend to taze me.

only a million or so scoville ... HA ... they'll call a bell pepper the hottest in the world at this rate.
the real king is called a Tepin which is believed to be the genetic source of all hot peppers.

Brought some into work today to share, only one person was willing to sample a piece. I'm thinking of warming up some olive oil and letting some habs and ghost peppers seep in it. Should work to spice up my chili this winter!

...those Ghost peppers are hard on a man. I love hot food, but not at the cost of overall flavor & my G.I plumbing. Remember...what burns going in...is gonna burn coming out. That's a warm fuzzy feeling I can live without.

I just scored some fresh high quality whole Piquin chilis from Penzeys Spices, (great company for all who love to eat.)
The Piquins are about as harsh as I can go...110,000-140,000 Scovilles...and that's plenty of blast for my dollar.

I saw some ghost pepper sauce at the State Fair this weekend...$25.00 for about 4oz! Pepperman claimed that they go for over $500.00 per pound so you might want to hold on to those bad-boys, they might stake you for your next "Grail Gun".

$500 a pound?! If that's true what the Pepperman said, (and I have no evidence to state otherwise) That's a crop that might start attracting DEA Blackhawk fly-overs...the bad kind.

Saw an interesting piece on the discovery channel about those peppers, hottest in the world, and a man sitting there casually eating them during the interview. They said he was the only human they knew of who could do that.

He seemed to REALLY enjoy them. No wincing, no tears, nothing but just smacking his lips and eating them
