I had been aware of reported problems, so I did every thing right. I had 1 stove pipe on last shot of first mag, no big deal. I made sure bolt was closed on each shot 0f next 80 rds. Then I wanted to fire a little faster, about 1 sec between shots, to get back on target. Then an ear shattering bang. I did not have ear protection and neither did my wife, who was about 5 ft to my right. I found the rim end of the shell in the chamber. Lucky nobody hurt, but our ears are still ringing. It did not take out the ejector or extractor. Sending it back today, I don't trust it again until repaired.

Ouch that sucks. Eyes and ears always man! S&W will take care of ya.

One round that didn't completely eject, is jammed between bolt face and rear of barrel, and sticks out of ejection port like a stove pipe. In other words, the empty casing is sticking out at a right angle to the bore.

Rough start, but we are very happy with our 15-22 now

Mine's on the way back.

After I get it back, can I trust it?

Our first one had an Partially Out Of Chamber Discharge on the 108 round. Was cleaned well before use. We had run 100 CCI Mini Mags through it fine. Then tried Federal Bulk pack. It was the 8th Federal. It took out the extractor in our case. The gun was replaced, and the second one has been perfect for almost 2000 rounds since (not exactly a lot, but a GOOD start).

Even though we had Ear protection, my 12 year old who was shooting at the time, was quite scared and wanted nothing further to do with the rifle. So when it came back it was mine.

To try to make a long story short, we put 500 CII Mini Mag through the 2nd 15-22, and I then decided that it was too hard to find the Mini Mags these days, and they are a little expensive for me. So I decided if I couldn't get it to run Federal bulk pack, I would sell it. So I picked up the exact box of Federals that the OOC occured from, and shot the rest of the box (about 500) that day and declared the gun fine. My 12 yo then wanted to try it again. Well, we'll skip the long negotiations, .... the 2nd 15-22 is his again; but I borrow it when ever he does not come shooting with me. He jokes (I think he is joking) that I should get my own rifle.:)

So we had a rough start with our 15-22, but I wouldn't sell it now for what we paid for it (ours is the "Taho" version=BUS & flash suppressor, we got at a gun show for $450 including state tax, was cash).

Of course our experience is only a single data point, so just my opinion:confused:
