Not on ANY social media unless you count this forum. Don't have a smart phone, a flip phone. Not into video games either. I've got my DirecTv and my internet. That's all I need for entertainment.

People in Facebook often write about firearms (and other topics) in complete ignorance, but take quick offense when corrected. The suppressor issue is a prime example.
 
The Eagle Nest Structure is-was in an open area NE of the village.
North of 64, East of 38. The last time I looked for it I could not find it!
Since it sat by itself in a large open field, pretty sure it been taken down.

I appreciate the response. I've frequented that area since the '60s and love it. Headed to there and Taos later this month.
 
IIRC, "they" are recording every electronic signal "they " can find, world wide. Really big brother.

Cell phone tower pings, license plate readers, those camera thingies hanging on the poles over every highway, toll booths, red light camera's, your electronics, etc etc, etc.

To add, my nephews lifelong friend is on loan to NYPD counter terrorism. He is fluent in multiple languages but will NEVER talk about what he does at work to anyone in the group who grew up together. And those guys and girls are tight as could be.

The UK has extensive laws on "malicious communication" and also on "acts that create distress or anxiety". To say they are open to vast amounts of interpretation and abusive overreach is an understatement. Where I'm from in England and in the time I was raised, unless I can see it running down your leg, I haven't yet created any distress or anxiety.;)

I had been down to the rifle club earlier in the day yesterday, finished shooting my smoothbore muzzleloader before the heat really set in. Decided to stop at the store to get my wife an iced Mocha that she really likes, bought a few groceries. While there I get a phone call from her, I'm thinking she sees I'm at the store and needs something. I answer and she tells me, "Two guys came to the door in a big SUV, I didn't answer the door." She then told me they went across the street and talked to the neighbor who then call her telling her they were from the Kalispel Tribe and were looking for me. That was how she was able to tell me "Two officers from the Kalispel Tribe were here looking for you." She said, "They went across the street and talked to our neighbor and took off." I told her "If they come back tell them I am on my way home, be there in fifteen minutes." I have nothing to be concerned about, but of course my mind went off in a dozen different directions and oddly I hoped I would be given time to change out of my shorts and t-shirt. Anyway, on my way home I get a call from the rifle club, the range officer said, "Two officers from the Kalispel Tribe were here looking for you, your neighbor told them what color your car was and that you often frequent the club if you're not home that's probably where you are." This is true but what ever happened to keeping your mouth shut? Anyway I get home and here they are in an unmarked SUV, talking to my wife outside. I get out, give her the mocha and ask them "What can I do for you fellas?" Both guys come over and flash their badges and allow me to read their I.D.s, one guy has an FBI I.D.
One guy shows me a piece of paper downloaded from a computer that came off of Facebook. He asked me did you make this reply? I told him that yes I did. He said, "What did you mean by this reply?" I told him I was correcting an error about the use of light weight bullets to make 9mm subsonic, as was used in the Reacher movie. I told him you need to use a 147gr. bullet to make 9mm subsonic with a suppressor, I told him I've been doing that stuff all my life. The FBI guy said "I do that too, especially military and cop movies, etc." I told him that was all I meant, what was the problem. He said, "One of the people reading your reply thought it was made in a threatening way." THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK
I'm not upset at the officers, they have a job to do, and they were very friendly shaking my hand when I arrived and identifications were secured and again when they left....No apologies because none was expected or deserved, I understand their job. It's just that this is where we are going and, in many respects, where we already are or have been. Trust me to say that it will be a long time before I ever do any correcting and I will have a word with my neighbor about his ability to rat me out in an instant, of course I should probably not do that because I might appear to be threatening to him. I now have a red flag on me and truly need to be careful. Never thought it would come to this; my wife has been right all along.

Two questions: 1) do you live on the Rez?

2) Was a tribal police member carrying FBI creds, or was it an actual FBI agent riding with Tribal police?
 
Tribal LE in some states has the same authority as any municipal agency and in the west, the silly "jurisdictional" limits are often negated by statute and interlocal agreements. Note that when the shooting of the fire fighters in CdA happened, multiple WA agencies responded to assist. I am aware that WA has a statute that allows for Idaho and Oregon cops to take LE action here under some conditions and I prosecuted a case some years ago when I was felony DPA in which the offender was caught in a small town in ID near OR, and OR officers responded to help because of the lack of resources.

In this case, note that one of the personnel involved had FBI creds; the Kalispell officer could have been cross appointed as deputy USM as part of a task force. It's pretty common and not worth much bandwidth because this simply a non-issue.

Whoever called whining about the Facebook post should have been invited to shut up and FO. Thinking that was a "threat" is so far from reality as to suggest that they need a guardianship. Society has been come sissified to such an extent that I am glad I am not very social. (And the comments about the totalitarian conduct in Great Britain are consistent with other things I have seen; I have no personal knowledge.)

Was a Civil case years ago where the Defense attempted to show that the other party was an alcohol abuser because they bought 4-5 bottles of booze in a month.

We are being watched all of the time, by everybody.
I wonder if the Girl Scouts track my cookie purchase.

So some variant of the police showed up at your house asking questions and investigating a potential crime? The only thing you should have said to them is

"I'm invoking my right to remain silent I'd like to speak to my lawyer."
 
Technically speaking, this Forum qualifies as social media. However, except for a few folks, we all use "screen names"/"aliases"/"handles" so it would take a subpoena to the Forum owner to get an identity. Since we are under strict obligation not to write anything that would incite scrutiny from the FBI, SS, or the Royal Mounted Police, we can write pretty much anything else that we want. And, since it is automatically understood that our subjects outside of the Lounge are about weapons, nobody is going to complain. We're safe here. And if you want to be unsafe, you assume the risk, so you can freely get on Facebook, MySpace, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, whatever. I choose to NEVER use social media, except here.

In the 1950s, the head of the FCC, Newton Minnow, stated that "Television is a vast wasteland". Social media has totally supplanted that.

Probably not. Tom Cruise is the least believable character in Hollywood, except when he fits into a jet's cockpit.
