I have a 686 and am looking for larger grips. I have long fingers.

It currently has the standard Hogue grip.

Can anyone recommend a decent larger grip. I'd rather not go with a custom grip.

thanks

Pachmayr Presentation are uncomfortably large for me, but might be just right for you. They are larger than Hogue.

What about the x frame grips, I have heard some people putting them on other guns.

If it's a later model with the round Butt grip frame you can purchase the 500 Magnum monogrip from the S&W web store and it will slide right on. BTW, any L frame with the Lock will have a round butt grip frame. As for the 500 Magnum grip, it covers the backstrap thus increasing the trigger reach in addition to featuring a larger corcumference.

Pachmyar Declerator grips work well for me and I have large hands. Great grip and help cushion hands for hotter loads. If you want wood Eagle makes some nice combat grips or look here on the forum and you might find some factory combats for a decent price.

If it is a square frame you can just the factory wood target grips .... They can be really big.
I personally have large hands and actually like smaller stocks that I can wrap my hand all the way around. I also shoot my revolvers with the second bone of my trigger finger. Not the first like I do for semis

They have the model 500 impact absorbing Hogue square butt conversion grip that fits the 686 and 500

Is that the one ??

If you need to have your hand further back because of long fingers, I suggest you order the Herrett's Jordan Trooper grips. The backstrap is covered which moves your hand back, allowing for longer fingers like Bill Jordan, who had huge hands. Herrett's will custom make the stock to fit YOUR hand based upon a tracing you send them.

I put Badgers on my 4" 686 no dash. They will take a couple of measurements over the phone at the time of order, & make them to fit your hand.

Especially like them on a square butt L, or N frame. That said, I'm thinking about ordering a set of their boot grips (satin finish / rosewood laminate) for my 3", RB, HB, 65-3.

They sometimes take a small amount of fitting here & there, but IMO, it's a small price to pay for the ergonomic advantage.

I have big hands too so I run the Pachmayr presentation grips on my heavy barreled PPC gun and Pachmayr Grippers on the rest of them. The Gripper fills my hand nicely. The Presentation grips are even bigger but my PPC gun is muzzle heavy so they work well for that.

Grippers are the bomb. The Decelerators are way to mushy for my taste. Kinda like School Peas!

Wood grips look nice but I dislike shooting with them especially down in the Jungle and the way I sweat.

One of my favorite shooters is a 4" 686, and I am blessed with monster hands. Have tried all the various rubber stuff and threw all back into the grip box. The best solution I've found is a set of 70's vintage S&W K-frame smooth target stocks. They are big and fill my paws nicely.

Ahrends Retro Combats in Round to Square filled out the grips of both my 686+ and 617. Take a look and see what you think.

I really love shooting with those grips.

Here is my L-framed 296 sporting the recoil absorbing X-frame (S&W .500 Magnum) Hogues. A pocketable CCW with it's OEM boots, it certainly isn't with the big grips. BTW, those grips fit the RB K & N frames, too.
