Thanks guys. It was a great day, and I managed to stir up a little trouble.
Got up at 5:00 a.m. to drop my wife off at dialysis. My mother in law called at 6:45 a.m. to sing "happy birthday" to me. Then I had a meeting. Picked up my wife from dialysis and headed out to visit my folks. They are 79 years old and going strong. Ate lunch with them and ate some angel food cake.
We left their house to meet friends for a dinner celebration at 6 p.m. Ate some more food. Laughed much. Talked guns. Harassed the women folk. Ducked. Laughed a lot more.
At my job, I have the privilege to mentor younger guys who are working to overcome tough circumstances. I got a call from one of them. He said some of the guys wanted to bring me a birthday present so I arranged to meet them after dinner at my place at 8:45. Picture is blurry, but this is what they brought me.
They know me too well. These guys are in their 20's. One of them said, "After God and your wife, we figure these are the next two things on your list." Diet Dew and ammo. Smart kid.
Then I got some 48 year old birthday affection from my ever-loving wife of 25 years. She is resting quietly, and I am checking in with friends who have expressed birthday greetings. Thank you all so much. "Happy" just isn't enough adjective to describe this day.
Just pretend this is witty.
