My parents and I saw Billy Graham preach in 1958 in Charlotte.
I knew what "charismatic" meant, even at that young age, but I'd never really seen a live example of it before. I saw it then. He was forty-years-old then, and a mesmerizing speaker. A true firebrand.
Over a half-century later, the memory is still strong in my mind.
By his own account, Reverend Graham did not fear death. He and Ruth are together again now.

Over 20 years ago his son was giving an interview in which he stated his dad had given away everything of value...penniless with no assets to his name....Mr. Graham stated he didn't want to be carrying any excess baggage when arriving at the Gates.
He was a tool of God and a faithful servant.
Rest In Peace reverend Graham......you faith, leadership and humility will be missed.

Seems to me that his reported net worth in 2017 was north of 25 million. Must have made a lot of money in the last 20 yrs.

I was raised in a very religious family and greatly admired Rev. Graham for his middle of the road approach to religion and events. His strongest point I feel is forgiveness and understanding. We have lost a great one.

His organization is worth millions. His personal life has been purposefully free of ostentation.
And any money he has has gone toward his goal of evangelizing through out the entire world.
And he at least visited, wes friends with or advised every President since Truman.
One early in his career he was talking to someone after a rally and laughed and glanced to one side while they were carrying a basket of donations by him. The picture was made out to be him leering at the cash as it went by. He told his crew that he didn't want to be seen anywhere NEAR money after that.
I've been by his home in Montreat, NC. It was a big, nice place, but no bigger and nicer than many professional people have that we know .

I was always impressed with the passion, down to earth common sense, and love for his fellow man that marked all his sermons. He never seemed like he was PREACHING like some of the charismatics rather, he was just talking to us. I always thought he was unique in his style. He was truly a gentle loving soul. No telling how many souls he brought to God.

I was fortunate enough to see Rev. Graham preach at an outdoor stadium in the early 70s. He will be missed.
I couldn't help while watching Fox News earlier thinking that the Gospel was being preached on national TV while the reporters spoke of Graham's life. I have no doubt there are people finding Salvation due to the reporting of his death.

You can take religion out of the picture and still respect the fact that the man spoke in favor of good and respect for your fellow man then pretty much tried to follow that path.
In his long life, I never saw that he failed us, or, more importantly, himself. Quite a track record. RIP, Dr. Graham.

I took it as Mr. Graham understanding the rich man, camel and the needle.
Being a proud rich man does not require accumulation of excessive money...something to think about.

Certain "hot button" topics are banned on this board because the discussions often get heated, create hard feelings and detract from our core purpose. They would also require too much of our time moderating, with nothing resolved.
Religion is still one of those banned topics, but we make a distinction between advocating/criticizing specific religions (including atheism) and mentioning God/faith/prayers.
I don't see a problem honoring the life and mourning the death of a great American who had a positive impact on millions of people.
