Does anyone know what kind of rifle was used? I have heard that the shooter was taking a citizenship test with the rifle. That doesn't sound right to me. The news says that there are 4 dead and 12 wounded. That would indicate to me that a firearm with a large capacity magazine was used.

You know that the anti-gunners are already dancing in the blood to justify a ban on "assault weapons" and large capacity magazines.

All I've seen is "a high-power rifle". Rifle hunting is legal in some of the Southern Tier, so it likely means a .30-30, .270, or .30-06.

I don't believe he was taking the test - there was a test in progress when he entered the building.

(This is about a 90 minute drive from me.)

(Oh - NY still has an "assault weapon" ban. And a ban on post-1994 high-capacity magazines.)

I hope this isn't the one that starts the call for bans. The news channels aren't putting the spin on it that forum members are. O will likely be asked about it while in Europe.

News is saying 42 Y/O Vietnamese American. Parked his car blocking back door so no escape there. Gun type still unknown (High powered is media for anything but a .22lr). Joe

If the "news" media reported it as a high-powered rifle, that just means it ain't one of those "high caliber" pistols.
In other words, they don't know their butts from shinola and we'll have to wait for more info before we know for sure.

Because they've got to fill up a 24/7 on air cycle with jabber. And that means that 23 hours and 45 minutes of it will be mindless blather. Written on the run and edited even more casually also on the run. I just heard (ABC radio news 14:00 PDT), now he had two handguns, no long gun. And the Brady Bunch has already started it's typical necrophilia.

Unpossible! How can that be??? NY state has a 10 round magazine restriction! Doesn't that save lives?

I heard a 9mm hangun was found. The news is currently reporting he had two handguns.

I think we will be seeing an increase in the use of the term "high power rifle" rather than "assault rifle". This will be the basis for registration of all center fire rifles in the next AWB. We are witnessing a stratagem shift here if I'm not mistaken.

He had a survival knife and a flashlight? Well, we need to ban knives like England did, and no more flashlights that use more than two AAA batteries.
