Binghamton Shooting Incident

I too noticed the "style manual" shift of terms today and thought, gee, they've changed the words.

Yes, the style manuals ARE real and they are used by writers of news to make sure they use the proper terms for things.

For instance, years go "Pro Life vs. Pro Abortion" was suddenly changed in the AP Style Manual to "Anti-Abortion vs. Pro Choice."

"Pro" carries a positive connotation to people but "Anti" sounds narrow-minded and negative.

I believe they are currently in the process of ending using the word "Assault Weapon" because we so OWN them on this issue and they know it.

"High Powered Rifle" though would easily apply to any centerfire rifle . . . and thus be the next step in banning all of our single shot, autoloading centerfire hunting rifles.

Scary!

T.

PS: Sadly, they seem to have chosen the wrong time to trot out the new term . . . since handguns were used.

Too bad there wasn't at least one "sheepdog" in that building rather than all sheep.

I was listening to a local radio talk show today on 570 WSYR AM Syracuse, following the incident, and the host (Jim Reith) said how much more powerful ammunition is now than it used to be.

Jim Reith claims to be pro-2nd Amendment, but he "never really liked handguns" and "doesn't see the need to be able to own AK's".

He's also against concealed carry...but he's pro-2A.

how much more powerful ammunition is now than it used to be.

Powerful may be the wrong choice of word, but I can sort of see the point being made. Let's face it: a 9mm HydraShock or GoldDot or whathaveyou is a far more effective stopper than the classic .38Spl 158gr LRN...

More powerful? Not significantly. More advanced and more effective? Definitely.

I'm telling you; Feinstein, Brady, Schumer, and the others are dancing in the blood. This just what they were waiting for.

We've been following this pretty close and the above statement is about as close to truth as you'll find. Plus, One more nail in our coffin.

I LOVE THIS BS!!!!

ALL DAY, the media has been reporting over and over again, ASSAULT RIFLE, HIGH CALIBER RIFLE, etc, etc, etc.

Now it's TWO HANDGUNS? This is news?

My thought exactly. A news reporter commented about the alleged 250 million guns in America, "almost one for every citizen". Yeah, too bad at least 1 of those firearms was not available to those poor victims.

Binghamton is my home town area.My heart goes out to the victims family's.To get a permit to own a pistol in Broome county can take from 6 months to a year.A ccw is very difficult to near impossible to obtain.Violation carries a mandatory jail term of at least one year as I recall. The terrible irony is that I remember attending a gun show in that same building back in 1976.Unforuntely the "Valley of Oppurtunity" as it was once known has fallen on hard times over the last 30 years.Like many other areas it has lost a large portion of its middle class.Especilly the backbone of blue collar workers it once had in abundance.
Times and the world changes both for better and for worse.Sometimes it is hard to accept the bad with the good.

Diane Sawyer was doing the ABC news last night and was talking with one of the field "reporters" and she was looking very pained and asking him if the Justice Dept. or Congress can create any new laws to stop these events. She quoted the Brady Bunch's usual line. She also used the opportunity to advertise her upcoming "Special" about guns in America. They seem to have some part where some of their "experts" will demonstrate that having a gun in such a scenario won't help. So, ABC is obviously onboard with the confiscators. No surprise there of course.

Ironically enough, I imagine this incident and the intensification of howls from the opportunists will just boost gun sales even more. I was thinking about going to a local gun show today but I would bet one can't get near the place. The local radio spot for it has even had someone saying, "Get them while you still can." I guess the fact that there have been a number of people predicting an upsurge in violence due to the economic disaster is lost on the media cretins. It would take too much real research and thought to address why such violence really happens.
