I finally shot some non lead rounds and wow does that gun go boom. I was thinking it would probably be very prudent to get a bipod for it, especially when I'm chronographing loads. I do not want to shoot my chrony again.

I've read that the Harris or Caldwell mount directly to the swivel hole. Any particular recommendation? I was looking at MidwayUSA and the Harris S-BRM 6-9" would be good for pistol shooting off the bench.

Also, if I keep my CED M2 the full distance from the bench, will the muzzle blast interfere with readings? I lit off some Berry 350 gr plated with 2400 38gr and was amazed. I haven't shot any factory yet...

Sorry I can not help you on your question, except to say that a bi-pod would take a beating from upward recoil and smashing back down.

Have you shot many of the Berry Plated bullets yet, and if so, have you checked for bullet creep on the 5th bullet after firing 4? Am running similar speeds with BP here, and no matter how I crimped, (now at 3 separate steps with both a roll and taper crimp, which is almost there) it would still creep. If no creep, please explain how what dies and method you are using.

Lighter bullets with less shank length in the case are more susceptible to pulling. Look at your expander and adjust it to the bare, BARE minimum to start a bullet without shaving the sides in the seater. I assume you're not skimping on the sizing step. Neck tension is what I'm getting at. Do these things have a cannelure? If not look at the Winchester 385gr CLHP rounds. The cannelure provides a nice firm place for the brass to hold onto and they shoot nice and flat too. Always crimp the big guys as a separate step after seating.

From talking to the people at Oehler (the brand I have), I think you'll get more accurate and repeatable chronograph readings if you make a simple blast shield for your device.

Just take some sturdy cardboard and cut a hole in it that is centered on the sky screen openings of the chrono. Lean it against or loosely fix it to the chrono and shoot from as far back as you are comfortable with. The .500 with heavy loads, is as you've learned, pretty high on the blast scale. Don

I have a Harris 6-9 on my 460 PC. When I mounted it initially it had some side to side movement. So I used some black RTV on the bipod mounting surface, put a piece of wax paper on it and then fit it on the barrel. When the silicone hardened, I dissolved the wax paper with water and have a secure bipod mount.
