Birthdate of CS40 Chiefs Special?

EKY49XX LEO friend of mine took this in on a trade and I'm wondering how old it might be. Good pistol, looks like it was carried more than shot. It is the blued/black version. Any idea of approx. value?

The CS line are selling for 500-600 dollars with the accompanying magazines.The 40 cal is the one that is the most difficult to find as it was the first to be discontinued on the civilian market.I was lucky as I got my CS9 NIB from a FFL who bought them discontinued from S+W for 595 dollars.That trick now would be impossible..God Bless...Mike

Wasn't the blued version made 98 and 99? Stainless was from 99-02?
