Birthday 617

I'm turning 60 this month. Called my gun dealer to see how much a 617 would cost, and how long to get one in. He said he had one in the case, $650. Happy birthday.

I had ordered a couple Wolff spring kits, had the Ahrends retro combat on my 620. Did a stone and polish on the internals. Installed the full power Wolff mainspring and the 14 pound rebound spring. Shot a few cylinders off just a while ago. Feels like a keeper.

I did nearly the same thing. I turned sixty 2.5 yr ago - a month later, I bought my new 4" 617 - cleaned it up internally, resprung it, and put some retro targets on it. Instant and deepest regrets soon followed... Why did I wait so long to get this revolver? Seriously - others suggested it's purchase to me years ago when I left the bottom-feeders. I thought, 'Get real... it's just a .22!'. I thought it was too expensive... but I funded the purchase with my 10+ year old MKII's sale - took a chance. Seriously - why did I wait so long? You'll love it.

Two other goodies - a HiViz sight (Especially short and made just for the 617.) and a DS-10 Speedloader and loading plate. Oh, and break it in properly - mine loves the el-cheapo 550 pack Federals from WallyWorld - lucky me! Congratulations.

You are absolutely right about the loaders and the front sight. Where do you get the front sight?

What's your take on proper break-in? I've always just shot a revolver until it's dirty, cleaned and repeated as indicated.

I bought an 18-3 a few months ago to go with my 19-3 and felt the 620 needed a little buddy. Also like the idea of 10 .22 rounds in stainless to go knocking about.

Never mind on the sight, found it.

Took it out for a spin Sunday and this afternoon. Lots of fun.

Yes, I like the 4" S&W.

Got it dialed in pretty good. It is a little heavier than the 18-3, but I do like the 10 shots.
