I traded for this one earlier & was told it is a former Law Enforcement Issue gun, Ser.# VYK15xx. I have had my eye on a new S&W Walther SS .380 equipped with the CT Laser Grip. Problem is that there must be a cargo ship full of 3rd generation Smiths for sale wholesale and I am unable to get anything close to what I have invested in it. (felt a little insulted by offer)I do not have access to wholesale and am curious as to what I can expect from a trade as compared to a straight sale. The trigger pull is really good in double action as well as single. It is black and less reflective. Not sure factory had any involvement with the refinish. Of course, I think it is purty. Some Ideas please. Many thanks.

Expect to get about half of retail in a trade-in. At least that's my experience.

How about some pics and what are you asking?
They never want to give you anything on a sw 3rd gen gun .They say all those police guns . or no one wants them they want plastic they offer me 200 some times less for a mint gun of mine . And then they want 500 for their junk

I am not ready to sell just yet but thanks for the offer. Also trying to learn how to take and post photos but not sure what all I need to get started. I have found my wife's digital camera and hoping to be in business soon. The barrel and magazines are not black, everything else is. The sights are the fixed, white, two dot rear and one dot front. I do not believe them to be the "Night" sights. I appreciate the participation and the information, thanks.
Woods and Wetlands in Randleman NC did a nice black refinish similar to what you have described.
You might want to go see Brian at Greensboro Gunworks. Hes honest and fair and will show you what the gun is worth. He also has alot of data on S&W special order pistols. Hope this helps! Regards 18DAI.

18DAI, Appreciate the info on Woods & Wetlands, they may have finished this 5906, The gentleman from whom I obtained this gun led me to believe it came from Western N.C. Hickory area. I couldn't find an "E" address in your profile and would like to inquire as to location of Greensboro Gun Works.

I would call S&W (800-331-0852) and they can tell you if it was shipped out with a special finish and if it was a LE order. Most but not all department have their have guns marked as such. It not uncommon to see overuns for departments end up on the market ever now and then. 5906 ballpark $325-375 depending on condition, factory finish, box and paperwork, etc.

(handgunner356) The information I have received since the original post indicates that this is a run of the mill 5906, most likely black finished other than Smith. Other indicators confirm same. Southeast Iowa prices are apparently higher than our shop owners in N.C.are willing to invest. No problem, it is paid for and it is reliable. Do appreciate your interest and thanks for the reply from you and all the others.
