Someone asked me if I was going out shopping on Black Friday and I said no. They then asked me if I was a Scrooge. If by the term Scrooge, you mean I refuse to participate in the blatant commercialization of the Christmas Holiday, I don't take out an annual 6 month bank loan to pay for Christmas presents, I don't utilize 14.6 megawatts of energy to power multicolored lights strung around my property, I don't particularly like listening to Christmas music from mid August through mid November, and I don't consider Black Friday to actually be the most important holiday event of the season, then yes, I'm a Scrooge.

It’s set-up day at the annual Thanksgiving weekend Michigan Antique Arms Collectors show. :D

I will need to navigate around huge traffic jams, because thousands of people will be trying to get to the local mall. That’s just crazy! ;)
 
My favorite thing about BF is Wall Street. The mkt closes at 1pm and volume is always light on short trading days. When stocks are thinly traded, often there are bargains. I put buy orders in at low end of trading range and sometimes find an acorn. ;)
 
With most of the major retailers being closed today and with the COVID scare slacking down, I expect Black Friday to be something similar to what would be seen in the movie "Idiocracy".

I work less than 200 yards from one of the largest shopping malls in the US. I will be on watch tomorrow morning.

All I will say to anyone venturing out under these conditions is "Good Luck".

I absolutely detest how what is supposed to be a joyous religious holiday has become an ode to selfish commercialization. It's obscene.

If Clark Griswold is on the Forum and reading this, hey, do it your way and good for you...but please try to remember what Christmas is really all about... :)

I've got a pile like that too... but tomorrow I will be setting up at the Billings Gun Show for this weekend. Then I have two weeks of splitting and stacking till the Cody Gun show... Then I will consider hibernating for the Winter. Hey Two Bit...you coming up to Cody??
 
Oh Lordy, don't get me started. I've come to hate the whole Christmas season. Rather than go into long winded detail, I'm sure many of you understand. :rolleyes:
For the most part between now and about mid-January I'll be avoiding any type of retail establishment as much as possible. Venturing out only when absolutely necessary.

I'm afraid I've become part Grinch and part Scrooge. I'm a Grooge. :rolleyes:
 
I do remember when black friday shopping was a big deal, but I don't think I've seen any deals worth being interested in for the last three or four, and what there have been are online anyways. I don't know anyone planning to go in person shopping tomorrow, and I believe the extent of my purchases will be some caffeine and beer on the way home from a (hopefully successful) waterfowl morning.
 
I'm in with those who will do as little as possible with the retail world and other crowded places. I am not good with dawdling indecisive people anyway, and they seem much more prevalent for the period from now until about January 5. No thanks. The fake/insincere good wishes from people who are usually almost as grumpy as me makes it even worse.
 
As a kid I loved going to the big mid town dept store to see the large Lionel electric train display,drool over the Gilbert Chemistry Sets and Lincoln Logs and hope Santa would bring me the biggest Erector Set.
I can still smell the live tree in the parlor by the front window.

Retailers will always do whatever it takes to stay competitive and keep their doors open.
 
Never part of my family's traditions. Among my various social circles we limit gifts to $50 tops, and we do a fair amount of swapping, trading, "can you use?". And I am a big Craigslist hound.
 
No Black Friday craziness for me. I'll just be going into work. I did browse some of the online sales, but found nothing of interest other than a hard to believe "pre BF" price on a Genie garage door opener which I bought on impulse. In store only, so I had to go to HD to get it.
 
I am generally not a Black Friday shopper, but occasionally enjoy hitting Cabelas and Sportsman’s Warehouse - I’ll be at Sportsman’s tomorrow at 5am. Hoping to score SPP, ammo, powder and to look at other interesting specials they may have.

I used to go Christmas shopping with the wife. Too many inconsiderate people running around like lemmings. I garantee those ships off the california coast aren't going to get offloaded anytime soon. So get it while you can. And they ought to license shopping carts as those are dangerous weapons. Frank

I'm working this morning, and thinking that the best part of my Black Friday was the relatively easy commute. I'm not ashamed to say I envy you... :)
 
While I can appreciate the dedication on some bargin hunters, it's just not my thing. There will be plenty of sales before and after Christmas.

I still have my kids with me today and my wife and I want to make the most ofour time with them. There was not a holiday season for us last year and we were in a real funk as a result.

Family first, shopping for trinkets is waaaaay down the list.


Time for turkey breakfast sandwich....
 
I wouldn't go to town today for love or money. I was planning on working in wood and shooting my pistol but at 11:10 it's 50 deg. and 22mph winds out of the North so I'm going to stay inside. If I live there will be a better day to go outside and if I die it won't matter. Larry
