After trying to figure out what they are drinking on that show.....

I have seen five different bottles ranging from green glass to a standard clear bottle and one in a tan round canister that came out of a brown bag, as a gift.

I am thinking it is a Irish Whiskey but I might be wrong ?

One was a bottle of xxxx 18 but it did not come up on "Spirits" on my total wine store list... so the name was probably changed in the script.

Any ideas ?

I sure don't know. All I know is that on Gunsmoke, the whisky was colored water or soda pop. But the beer was beer!

I read that the Blue Bloods Sunday meal scenes are usually filmed in the
mornings. And they have no choice on what food is eaten.

Don't watch show but I suspect all the bottles are prop department fictitious names.

On film sets, the Props Dept will either cover up (ie with tape) or obscure in some fashion, all actual brand names on props; this process is called "greeking". If the label will be seen clearly on camera, Props will usually have a prop rental/fabrication company print fake labels that look very close to the real brand, but the name will be entirely fictitious. Real alcohol is also generally not allowed on set (at least in NYC where this is filmed), so it won't be real booze in the bottle. The script may read "they open a bottle of whiskey" and the Prop Master will just decide to use whatever whiskey-looking bottles are readily accessible in their storage and accordingly apply said fictitious labels. Or the script might read "they pour some Jameson" and the Prop Master will have to specifically dig around for a green bottle; the same fake label will get applied, but it'll say "Jackson" in the Jameson font. Whatever it is that it's scripted to be, it'll be whatever is closest Props can come up with on the day they are filming, so your guess as to whatever it is they're drinking...is probably not wrong.

Off topic, but in case there are actually people that follow Blue Bloods, just curious if anyone recalls a large gun battle scene where our four main characters are ambushed by four bad guy pickup trucks that converge on their position? Donnie Wahlberg fires an FN Scar in the scene...

Yes, Frank orders, "Irish whiskey, neat, water back" at the cop bar.

Last episode last season I believe,

2nd part of the two part ending, nephew and grandson joe was undercover with gun runners, that is why the fn probably.

Last episode of the last season, got it. Thanks.

Just wanted to know if that whole shootout looked any good, once it aired.

(Donnie wound up with the FN...just by chance. Though the SCAR does happen to be visibly different, he got issued the FN due to the higher likelihood it would run without issue with the blanks on that day.)

I enjoyed the final.....

The four main guys were danny, jamie and joe, joe was UC, the fourth one was the gun runner partner who dies in the gunfight even after he finds out joe is a cop but does the good thing and takes out one of the pickup guys.

Of course it is .

I watched a few episodes of Blue Bloods when it first came out. The arrogant, immature, hot-headed detective character that played the police chief's son ruined what might have been a decent series. No one expects realism in TV shows, but even in TV land, most would expect this character to have been fired in the first few shows.

I remember it, but not any details.

Tea is used as a look-alike for whiskey. I had understood that Dean Martin sipped a glass of tea as his prop in his routines where he always acted a little boozy.

If a brand name is shown in any TV show or movie the Company is paying some large dollars for that product to be shown. Years ago car brands were big for that and it was noted that the vehicles were provided by that manufacturer.

It is called "Product Placement" and is a very big deal in movies and TV.

But only if that's taken care of beforehand. Otherwise you're using their trademark or products without their permission in your for-profit show, not good.

The show where I really noticed some weird labeling was the original "Roseanne" show. Dan's "beer" was a slightly altered normal lable with "Beer" on it instead of the name. Cereal was done that way too.

Tea is also a great mixer for whiskey. Iced tea sweetened with rum or whiskey is wonderful on summer evening. As far as Blue Bloods is concerned, they always seem to be drinking Irish or Scotch whiskies.
