Blue Steel, Ivory and Gold

You realize just how nice Jeff's gun is when compared against my poor-man version of a Blued Steel, Ivory and Gold 29-2. It even has the scrimshawed grips...

Richard,

I would be only too happy to take that "poor-man version" off your hands any time you're willing to part with it.

Looks like a beauty to me. And you don't much care for that caliber anyway.

I'm sorry but while gold inlay is fine for accenting details, just gold plating parts (hammer, trigger, screw heads) seems straight up tacky. To me it cheapens the overall look of the package.

Actually, "the package" is perhaps deceiving-----which is to say it isn't really what it looks like-----nor what it was before it became what it is.

What it is, is a canvas upon which an artist, and one of damn few at that level, has chosen to display his talent---which appears to be-----words fail me.

How's prodigious sound?

I have been looking at Jeff's beautiful 44 Magnum over and over again and have come to the personal conclusion that on THAT gun, I like the gilded screw heads, barrel pin, sight adjustment screw, thumb release nut, gold front ramp insert, and probably even the gilded hammer and trigger, particularly when it is displayed in that Huey case. It is an amazing Blinged out 44 Magnum and in this situation it "works"... well.:cool::D

Thanks again Jeff for sharing that treasure.

On a separate note - You realize just how nice Jeff's gun is when compared against my poor-man version of a Blued Steel, Ivory and Gold 29-2. It even has the scrimshawed grips...

Richard, having full sized Ivory Target Grips is really amazing, especially in this day and time! They are beautiful. How durable is the scrimshawing? I think being a scrimshander is a lost art.

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a fan of etching and gilding. That being said, I love that colour of bluing. Ivory is another whole story. A Antique ivory, that has been on the gun a long time and used such that body oils and dirt have gotten into the grain make the ivory standout, is my pot of tea.
It's a beautiful bit of art but as I have said before: I'd hate to own it because my triggers are worked, and I'd hate to scratch the blue.

Sorry Richard, but we now have a new winner for the most possible amount of drool on my keyboard - caught me totally unaware. That is just stupendous.

Adios,

What could be better than blue steel, ivory and gold combined with the talents of a master engraver? This one was another of those unique items that show up at the annual Symposium. Thanks much Rad29!

A 29-2 engraved by master engraver Paul Piquette with scrimshaw by him too.. This one completed after he left S&W.

As to what could be better? Finding it in a custom Marvin Huey case, another work of art by itself including ivory handled tools.

Jeff just so I'm clear the entire revolver is nitre blued?

I don't think I've ever seen that before and certainly not that dark. Most of the time I associate nitre with more of a "peacock" color.

It's gorgeous! Who did the actual bluing, do you know?

I really can't tell you anything about the blue except I like it. Nor do I know who did the bluing. Paul Piquette would know I'm sure but I haven't contacted him about it.

Jeff:

Just had to comment a little more... I love everything about that gun (except that it is calibered in one of the "other" Magnums rather than "The Original Magnum").:D The sculpted inlays are particularly nice and the fine details (feathers, fur, etc...) are outstanding. The turkey seems to fly right off the front of the barrel. A few more closer up photos of the animal inlays would be much appreciated...:) The gold line work is also outstanding and I love the use of "open spaces" (areas that are not engraved) that allow the eye to focus on the gold inlays without being distracted by "too much" engraving.

Once again GREAT GUN!!!

Thanks for sharing,
