Bluing Aluminum

I am 100% certain that aluminum cannot be blued. Bluing is an iron oxide process, there is no iron in aluminum. Aluminum can be coated, plated, anodized, and I'm sure there are chemical compounds that can put a color stain on its surface, but it cannot be blued.

I said 99.99% sure because I'm not 100% sure there isn't an alloy of Aluminum that contains iron.

There are some aluminum alloys that contain iron for strength, but I'm not sure if any of those are used in the aluminums used in the firearms industry but they are in aircraft and automobile parts, so I'd say there's a chance.

Wow... I'm probably confused??

I believe aluminum can be blued.

The process of anodizing and bluing are not the same.

I understand the OPs intentions, but due to the apparent rarity of that firearm, I would leave it in its current, if original, condition.

FWIW, a deliberate and distinctly different color/finish is (for me) better than a near miss. Wearing a blue suit with dark pants that almost match, or painted shutters or indoor trim that's just a shade off from the rest is far more distracting than blue suit, grey slacks, etc.

Aluminum cannot be blued. If you put aluminum into a hot salts bluing tank the aluminum will be dissolved.

I saw that happen just the other day. My buddy dropped some parts in his tank and didn't realize there was a small aluminum piece. The steel parts blued of course, but the aluminum piece was ruined.

UPDATE
Fact: Bluing is not an option for aluminum.
Options to consider:
1. Do nothing and continue to tolerate the gloss black muzzle extension
2. Work Cerakote into the solution - still assessing pros/cons of this process
