Bluing on 442 J frames??

There have been several threads regarding an unsatisfactory finish on some member's 442's. I'm not sure if this problem is specific to a particular dash #, or if it is specific to a time period, etc. I have one of the 442-2 no locks, have had it about 6 months now, carry it often, no problems as of yet.

The barrel/cylinder is blued.

The aluminum frame used to be hard anodized. Now, don't know what coating Smith uses.

I miss the old school blued finish. This new black stuff is NOT pretty. Functional maybe, but not awe inspiring at all.

A blued finish is beautiful...but come one firehouse, your in the bis...you know that you can't ccw unless you have a tactical finish..

My 442 is the dull black anodized frame and the dull black "parkerized" barrel and cylinder. Manufacture was 1995, I've carried it for about 7 years now and it's just starting to show a bit of muzzle wear.

Oh, absolutely! Black is where it's at when going Tact.! I was speaking more along the lines of a good wheel gun. I love the old J, N, & K frames when they had the nice deep blue finish. Sans IL of course
