I'm new to the S&W Forum and I'm happy to be here...I'm hoping someone can shed some light on a bluing question. Last week I purchased a new 586-8 and the bluing on both sides of the barrel are cloudy. It doesn't show as bad when it's oiled but when it's dry and clean the bluing is cloudy, patchy and almost a dark grey. I've never run across this before and I'm concerned to say the least. Any ideas?

Very carefully use a very small dab of Flitz metal polish and gently polish . Then follow with some Ren wax

There are some reported issues with bluing on new 29-10s as Bluedot37 points out and if that is the case, S&W will make it right - I've read the positive posts from people that have had their revolvers re-blued for this issue. Just unfortunate and a hassle that the gun would come that way new. I bought a new 586-8 about 1-1/2 months ago and did see a little bit a cloudiness in the finish but I have to say that I've used RemOil and a rag on it several times and the finish is now gorgeous blue (not quite Colt Royal Blue - but very nice). RemOil has a cleaner in it and I did notice some brown (I believe factory rust preventative) on the rag initially but now it wipes clean. This may or may not be your issue but it worked for me. Hope this helps.
