bluing spot

Ijust purchased a real nice 17-4, Its original, It's 99 % but has one very small blemish in the bluing on the edge just above the right target grip, perhaps a touch of moisture sat there once. Being new at this, is there a fix for it without a whole re- blue ?.....thanks

How big a spot are we talking about here? If the gun has magnas on it, target grips will probably cover the spot so that you don't see it. Plus, they are far more comfortable to shoot with unless you have really small hands. It doesn't sound like anything I'd devalue a gun to have re-blued over.

If it's rust,take the grips off,soak it with oil and work at it gently with a rag for now.If the blue is just gone,there really isn't much you can do but keep it oiled so it doesn't rust.

While no one likes to have finish issues, that's not too bad. I'd just shoot it and enjoy it. My safe holds many guns with slight to medium finish issues. So what? I got good, to great deals on them because of it, and I get to shoot them whenever and as often as I want without all the dread that comes when you shoot a pristine piece.

..It's not rust trace, May have been at one time, I can't see a fix for a bluing flaw either, as you say, I'll keep good care of it, ( It's the only spot on the whole gun)- shoot it/enjoy it. Thanks all.

There is really not a good fix... attempts using a cold blue will make it look much worse and out of place, as it stands now it's "honest" wear and tear. A reblue will devalue the gun more than that one flaw in the eyes of many secondary buyers.

I know right now it grates on your nerves with the gun being a recent acquisition, but that will fade with time and the enjoyment of shooting it.... don't make any decisions now, go have fun with it, it can always be re-blued at a later date, if it still bugs you.
