Well how-dee, y'all?

Just got back from the crik on down there's a ways shootin' what I like to call my "modern day blunderbuss"! :D

Guys this is an old H&R Pardner single shot 12 gauge! Over the years I've had some work done to it. First a few years ago I had the long barrel trimmed back to 18.5", boy did that make the gun so handy! But boy, did it thump!! Just this week though I had a recoil pad installed plus some sling swivels. I couldn't be more pleased you guys! The kickback is way less now and it's a joy to shoot! The sling makes it easy to carry in the bush when you need two hands and whatnot.

Guys this is a tough and rugged and ultra handy and lightweight woodsman's gun if there ever was one! Should be just the ticket for squirreling or rabbiting or just blasting things in general! I've gotten wicked fast on the reload and with a pocket full of 00 buckshot I would not feel unarmed even using it for defensive purposes in an emergency. The old timers in the muzzle loading era had short cut down guns called "canoe guns" and this fits the same vein. These H&R (and other brands) single shot shotgun have gained a cult following in recent years in the bushcraft and prepper community, for good reason.

You guys should pick you up one, it's a great bush companion gun that'll take a lickin' n' keep on KICKIN' WOOOOOTTTT!!!

Take care gang!

I've been needing a 20 gauge. Walmart has them for $99. Your post may have pushed me over the edge.

LGS has a Midland Backpacker 12 gauge with an 18.5 inch choke tube barrel and a hollow survival stock for $159.00. It folds right up and will fit in my small pack. Hmmm.

Gracias.

Hey, I think you turned your Pardner into an H&R Model 88 Topper.

I have had this one for years. I bought it, I think, for 75 dollars, from "Cheaper Than Dirt" in Fort Worth, TX. It was sold to them with other guns from a local PD's confiscated gun depot.

Since the fire it is in storage but it will be in a closet again, loaded and ready to rock, after I move home.

When I was married to my 3rd wife (yes, yes, I know!) I left it under the bed on her side and told her if she needed it to put the butt on the mattress, point it at the bedroom door, cock the hammer, etc. I told her to think of it as her "mortar". When she was gone it became a hall closet gun for me. My bedroom guns were always a revolver (M686+ usually) and an Ithaca Model 37.

Years ago, I had an old Iver Johnson single barrel 18 1/4" 12 gauge. I put a 5 shot sleeve on the butt stock and mounted QD sling swivels front and rear.

The thing I liked best was I could maneuver inside the camper with it!

When I trained the wife to use it I shower her how to open and load it, with the automatic ejector emptying wasn't an issue! Since it opened with a top lever I told her it would probably cut the web between her thumb and forefinger. But she wouldn't care, the only reason she would pull the trigger was a bear was eat the boys or a dirt bag was attacking our daughter! I never had her fire it, she has 20 gauge shotguns she uses for other things!

I sold it off, 20 years ago, to the previous owner. He liked and paid for the improvements/accessories.

These handy little shotguns always made me want a M-79 grenade launcher!

I have a Model 88 that I bought 40 yrs ago. Not shot much but I did win $10 with it at the Sheriffs dept turkey shoot when my boy was little. These posts make me think of cutting that 28" down. I have a cheap Chinese pipe cutter that has shortened (legally) several pumpguns over the years. Hmmm.

Wait a minute... my 3rd (current) wife is from Dallas although she hasn't lived there in over 25 years. Small world. Joe
