Hi Folks,
I have been to PeterM's thread on these mounts and he had little response from folks who have used the BME mounts.
If anyone has any input on these mounts I would appreciate it.
Does the slide mount require a spring or load change with a 1" Millet or 1" UltraDot?
Has the frame mount worked out for any of you?
Thanks
Mike

I tried the mount that replaces the rear sight, and mounted a standard 1" Ultradot. It took a lighter Wolff recoil spring to get the 52 to function. My standard load is 2.7-2.8 of bullseye.
Personally, I like a 52 with open sights and the frame mounted weight, but never liked the scope on the slide.
I don't mind a 1911 with a Ultradot scope on the slide for bullseye, but I never cared for that setup on the 52. Maybe a Doctor scope on a 52 might be nice.....

Hi Ignatz,
I am leaning towards the frame mounted dot and a Konus Atomic red dot (3oz. & no rings).
If I was to go up with my loads the gun wont shoot as well. I found that out in load testing for it. I think there is about a fifteen dollar difference in the mounts. I have used frame mounted dots on IPSC/steel plate guns for years. The only down side is the BME requires removal to clean the gun.
They claim if you get one machined for your gun it re-zeros when installed. I am hoping someone can relate some real experience with the frame mount.
Thanks
Mike

Have the BME frame mount. These only fit the 52-1 & 52-2, as they have the slots in the frame to fit weights. If you order one, you should measure the inner slot to slot width to get a snug fit on you pistol. These minimizes scope adjustments when you take off and replace the mount, which is needed for cleaning.
A friend has the dovetail mount and isn't crazy about it, as it needs load/spring changes like any slide mounted one and the single mounting point doesn't lend itself to consistent tightness.
If you really want a slide mount, and the pistol isn't a "collector", then mount a base on the slide by the conventional drill and tap method. You can keep the irons on as well and have them instantly available by removing the scope.

Thanks

Thanks NCY54,
I shoot with a fellow who has a BME frame mount that he no longer uses.
I should get it this week. I am going to give it a try.
My gun shoot good but if I have to go up with my load the groups open up.
I hope the frame mount works out for me.
It is a pretty nice 52-2 but I am the kind of guy who would drill holes in it and wear panties if it would gain me 10 points.
I am going to try not to drill it if I dont have to.
Thanks for the advice.
Mike

I use the BME mount that replaces the rear sight . I choose this because I can use the barrel weight & did not have to drill / tap the gun . I use a 1'' UD & a 7lb recoil spring . I've not had to bump loads either . I use 3.1 W231 or 3.6 VVN 340 with Remington / Zero / PD 148 HBWC . I find the 52 muzzle light & twitchy w/o the weight .

Thanks Boatbum

Thanks Boatbum,
I picked one up from a buddy and have it mounted but I have not shot the thing yet.
I'll report on it after I have shot it some.
Thanks
Mike

I've used the BME mount with an Ultradot LT on my 52-2 for about 3 years now. It works great.
I recently changed from 2.7 to 2.8 gr of BE and went to a heavier spring and the action seems a little better. But the standard spring, BME and LT and 2.7 gr of BE works fine as well. (I'm always tinkering).

I purchased both the slide mount for a Docter red dot and the frame mount. I never got around to using the slide mount since I found the frame mount to work well for me. It was easier to switch between the open and optic sights. SAince then I have opted to use my 52 with open sights but still have both mounts. PM me if you are interested.
