Doc, your info sounds like British proofs applied to a gun. Can you possibly post a few pictures of the subject pistol?

Does it look like this, in addition to a >38 S&W CTG< stamp on the barrel? Even without a picture, that will at least allow us to confirm the type of gun.
Any idea of worth would indeed require photos, as much depends on condition.

3 1/2 LONG tons per square inch chamber pressure.
You describe a British WWII service revolver.
I won't guess a dollar number but it is worth a fair bit with its original 5" barrel if in excellent original condition. Not much if it is neglected or refinished or reamed out to take .38 Special.

You'll get more answers if you post in the right forum. Your gun was made between 1940-45.
In really good condition and in the original .38 S&W caliber, not altered to take .38 Spcl., you miglht get from $350-400. Your best bet is to find someone who collects British and Commonwealth martial arms. They may pay a bit more.
