a couple of bus loads of us from Rhein Main Ab got bused over to Hanau in 1971 for the Bob Hope tour. we had to sit in the back and we got a lot of jeering from the army guys. however I think they were jealous as we looked so darn good in our dress blues. I think they got more even on us as one of the buses broke down on the way back to base

I used to love watching the Bob Hope shows, I especially liked his monologues in the very beginning of the show.

With that said back when I was in the hospital after falling 20' and got hurt real bad, I had to turn his show off. I laughed so hard at his monologue that the 5 broke or cracked ribs and busted up shoulder were hurting big time.

Put it back on after monologue was over and kinda "suffered" a bit through the rest!

In post war, 1945, Bob "stole" my Uncles local prisoner musicians (local Germans, that he used as good will/ USO style musicians) to back up Les Brown's Band of Renowned!".

He told this story to Bob Hopes daughter and she got a big laugh out of it.

I think his last appearance before a military audience was here in San Antonio. This was sometime in the early or mid 1990s, and he performed a show at Kelly AFB as part of the dedication of the new Kelly corrosion control facility (aircraft paint shop). I did not attend, but I remember the event. It was obvious his performance was way over the hill. I remember reading that he and Johnny Carson did not get along, and as a result he made only one appearance on Carson's show.
