Bodyguard 2 trigger question

New bodyguard 2, testing the trigger, dry fire it - when pulled slowly the trigger snaps and you would expect it to fire, but the striker does not fire - the trigger is full back against the stop....I have to apply more pressure after the snap to get the striker to fire. Its feels like its a two-stage trigger pull. Doesn't feel right, once I get the "click" on the trigger and its traveled all the way back, where you would expect it to fire, if I let go it resets and I can pull it back to the snap again, still no stiker. It only fires if I apply pressure past the snap. This doesn't feel right. Am I missing something here. If I pull it more briskly it fires as I would expect. But I have never had a striker fired gun with a trigger like this that worked differently on a slow pull. Is this just a break in issue? Have not had a chance to go to the range yet

This may or may not be an issue with your BG2....

For the trigger to move to the break, the trigger safety pad has to be pressed from the bottom of the trigger guard in order to fully compress the pad against the trigger and allow the little tab to retract into the trigger housing.

It has been posted that the tip of the little tab on the trigger pad can catch on the grip frame just enough to feel like the trigger has reached a pre-break.

You can test that action by pulling the trigger at the top of trigger safety pad.

I would want my local range armorer to look at it and then decide what to do going forward. Sending it back to S&W for a resolution may take weeks.

For me, having a non-functioning firearm out-of-the-box is very disturbing to say the least.

Thanks for the reply - that is not the issue here. When I pull the trigger just a bit more briskly, it functions correctly every time. That is what happened when I tested it before buying. But when I pull it slowly as you would when carefully aiming, I feel and hear a click that almost sounds like the break, but its more of a plastic click, like something is slipping inside on the trigger and the the trigger is fully depressed at the stop, but the firing pin does not go off unless I pull just a bit more once the trigger is at the stop. It is not getting stuck on the trigger guard, this feels like something internal. I lubed the trigger parts, no help.

What was confusing me was your use of the word "resets" above. Unlike a Glock, the BG2 trigger moves forward even when the sear is not engaged with the firing pin lug. But it seems you are still engaged in this case. So I suspect you are at the end of travel of the trigger bar but still not dropping the sear unless you apply more pressure which is deforming something in the trigger structure. I'm guessing that when you pull "briskly" you are still applying that extra deforming force on the trigger. If you measure the trigger pull weight, you probably get a very high value.

This is nothing you should attempt to repair on a pistol that is under warranty. GnarlsR2 is right. It's back to Smith.
