I'm thinking about getting a Bodyguard 380 auto.

Living in California, I have to buy used.

So what models are out there and what are the main differences between them?

I'm a DA revolver shooter so a somewhat long trigger doesn't worry me.

What model should I look for?

Haven't picked mine up yet. But Looking to am get the newer M&P version, with thumb safety, no laser. Smith model #109381. Comes with 2 6rd magazines and soft side carry case.

That said I think if you come across any used one newer or older at a decent price, buy it. All Smiths have a lifetime warranty with top shelf service on their guns.

Go to "Buds Gun Shop California legal" its a gun store in Kentucky and has over 5 pages of handguns legal in your state. Just look it up on Google.
The BG comes with or without a safety. The older versions are not marked M&P. Some folks have had no problems with the older ones some have.
S&W has a lifetime warranty but only for the original owner according to my BG owners manual.
If you get a used gun you own any issues/repairs. There are trigger kits for light strikes & mag release
Kits if your gun keeps dropping mags etc. etc. but you pay. Something to think about. There are a number of pistols on that list that are the same size you might find as appealing.

Be SAFE and shoot Often!

The M&P version sounds interesting. Sounds like a better investment than the Remington RM 380!!

M&P Bodyguard 380 ACP

I am new to this forum.

Perhaps someone can inform this old man if the trigger pull can be reduced?

Mine has the thumb safety and the Crimson Trace Red Laser.

I am retired U.S. Army, from 1968 until 1988. Old Service Number - RA-12942637.
I have used the M-14, M-16, M1911, M-79 & M60. Also have carried the XM14E2.

Qualified with an S&W Model 19 for Security Officer.

Personal weapons: Mark IV Series 70 Gold cup. M1991A1. Taurus PT-945.

This is my first S&W I have owned. I have nerve damage to both hands. Surgery has NOT improved it. Born in 1950. Earned every bit of Arthritis I have.

Thank You!

First, thank you for your service to our country.

I do not know the answer, I think it would be best answered by Smith and Wesson to make sure if its possible and still have a 100% reliable function.

I have reduced DAO J frame revolvers with spring kits with success.

They might suggest the EZ 380 as an alternative, not a pocket pistol though in my opinion. Non the less,an option if the bodyguard is not suitable for trigger pull reduction. My EZ 380 is very easy to rack the slide and has a 4 1/2 lb factory trigger.

I found this, no experience or affiliation but it might be worth a call for you

i installed the Galloway kit in a BG .380 and it does shorten the trigger pull. go to Galloway Precision site to find the particulars.
Galloway has a good reputation. if you decide to install the kit i would have a reputable gunsmith do the work.

Bodyguard 380

Everything I have searched and found about this particular handgun has returned about 4/5 different versions:

1 - No Laser and no safety.
2 - Safety added.
3 - Green Laser.
4 - Red Laser.

It gets a bit fuzzy trying to sort through the versions.

I have NOT counted ANY after market add-ons.

Regards, Bob
