Hello all...3 weeks ago I went out to the range to shoot my rifle and had about 60 rounds of TulAmmo go through it with no issues. I've ran this ammo as well as different brands with no issues. Well I decided to shoot some pmc ammo I had bought. After switching to that I had troubles that day. After loading a mag up full of that ammo I'd have a jam, for some reason the Bolt assembly would jam up and not 'catch'. Id pull the charging handle and it would load a cartridge would no issues. I'd fire the round off and again the bolt assembly would not catch, then I'd pull the charging handle again. After one box of 20 of pmc, I thought was the issue, I decided to go back to the last 20 rounds of TulAmmo I had. Still having issues with the bolt assembly not catching. Only thing I can think of was the bold assembly or the bolt assembly group was binding up due to the dirty ammo I was using. I've since yet to go to the range and try it again, but have however cleaned my rifle and decided to run it nice n wet.
Any one have thoughts?

Two common things that cause a failure to feed issue is short stroking or the magazine. It is easy enough to swap a known good magazine into the rifle to see if that fixes the problem.

From your description, it does sound like your rifle may be a bit dirty in the BCG and that could certainly cause a FTF.

If you have already cleaned and lubed it, then take a few extra magazines to the range with a variety of ammo and test it. Start with the clean burning ammo first.

Thank you for the information stu, Ive been using strictly pmags and both the rifle and mags are not even 2 months old, so Im gonna go for a very dirty BCG and start with that. I plan on going next chance I get which should be in a couple of days. Thanks again.

Based on the additional info you provided, I would give the BCG and upper receiver a good cleaning and give it another try at the range.

Be sure to report back what you find, here in the thread, so that others can benefit from your experience. Good luck!

I'm sticking to lubing an AR generously.

I'm not touching gas ring alignment with a 10ft pole. Whichever way they align, they align. ;)

I do recall the first time I ran my ar and cleaned her, i used clp and plenty of it. the next time i cleaned her i didnt use clp and rather a cleaner and a bottle of lube. So that coulda been it too. Im gonna actually bring a can of clp and if it binds and i have issues, ill pull the bcg and spray it with clp.

Hey, make sure your gas rings on your BCG are either aligned or not aligned. Not of this **** in between!

I carry a can of tri-flow in my shooting bag, for JIC situations. The last time I cleaned her I used a little high temp grease, the copper colored grease and it has stayed with her and hasnt shown any issues other than having to clean off the excess when I opened her up. And I though I use a little but my sport let me know that I needed to use a little less.

Update....well I had a chance to go to the range on Monday but due to time constraints I was only able to shoot 80 rounds through her. I used remington white box and also federal, both 55 grain. I had a issue right off the bat, but I beleive it was the metal mag I was using, then had a issue with the mag release not releasing the mag properly(turns out I tightened ther bullet button down to far not allowing me to push the release all the way through....yes I live in CA) After a knife and me playing with the button with a screwdriver and after my 3rd hand yanking on the mag, I was finally able to remove the mag and use a pmag. Was able to have no issues after. got home and cleaned her and lubed her up ready to go shoot some more this weekend. So it had to be me not giving it a good lube over. Im planning on testin my theory by running dirty tulammos again. tbc!!!
