Bolt block and fixed hand???'s

What does bolt block and fix hand mean on a Smith & Wesson 629 - 3? Thanks

Bolt, locking bolt, floating hand. These are terms I recognize.

The -2 had a floating hand IINM.. -3 went back to fixed.

Neither of those terms make any sense to me. I never heard of either.

In S&W revolvers"

the "Bolt" is the internal part that the "thumbpiece" is attached to that pushes the "Center pin" out of engagement with the breech face and unlatches the "Yoke" and "Cylinder" allowing the gun to be opened.

the "Locking Bolt" is the small spring-loaded pin located in the "Barrel Lug" that locks the front of the "Extractor Rod" when the cylinder is closed.

The "Bolt Block" is a small piece that is articulated to the trigger in newer N-Frame revolvers. When the trigger is pulled the bolt lock is raised between the front of the Bolt and the frame to prevent the gun from un-latching from inertia of the bolt when the gun is fired. It is one of the features of the "Endurance Package".

The difference between the "Floating Hand" and "Fixed Hand" is the pivot pin for the "Fixed Hand" is rigidly fixed in the hand. The pin in the Floating Hand is loosely fixed in both the trigger and hand. It was an un-successful "Improvement" to the revolver lock work and was dis-continued years ago after only a couple of years as it sometimes caused function issues.
