Perhaps some information that could help.

In 1969 S&W began the importation of Husqvarna Mauser style actions
generally referred to as 1600 series actions. In late 1969 Husqvarna began
producing the last rifle action which they designed that being the 1900 action.
S&W continued this importation until early 1971 when the relationship dissolved.
There were two subsequent importers, Tradewinds in Tacoma, Washington and
FFV Sports in Billings, NY. In 1973 Carl Gustaf took over the production of the
1900 action including the incorporation of surplus parts from Husqvarna, and
Gustaf continued until 1977. There were a variety of iterations during this time
that yielded "transition guns" but the action remained the same.

What this means to you is that any bolt with a .30 cal face bolt will fit your .30-06
rifle. This would include .25-06, .270 Win, 308 Win., etc. irrespective of the caliber
or length of the action since all of the actions were the same length. Thus for
example, if you found a bolt from a Tradewinds 1900 in .270 Win, it would fit
your 30-06 rifle.

If you would like to email to me the first three digits of your serial
number I could narrow down when your rifle was made. Some pictures
of the stock, barrel, floor plate and butt plate would also help since there
was a mixing of parts during the transition between importers.

I should mention that there is no cache of 1900 parts in any one central
location. Consequently, parts tend to be very expensive. I have looked
for the last forty years for parts and have only found a few pieces / parts.
It seems that some of the 1900 rifles are turning up now that the baby
boomers are passing and some estates are yielding Husqvarna treasures.
Recently I found a left handed 1900 action only on GunBroker - an absolutely
wonderful catch since it was not only left handed but also it was new in the box.
I also found an extractor for a magnum bolt face in Canada several years ago.
I also have bought a couple of parts guns just to get stocks, floor plates and
mag springs.

I was at the Tulsa Gun Show (the largest gun show in the world) two weeks ago
and I found only one 1900 rifle, but there were several 1600 rifles.

Let me know if you need more information or help with your rifle.
Feel free to email me at email me at: [email protected]

I am a collector but not a dealer.

anybody have any sources

Do you know which type action your gun has? The rifles with
the Mauser type, 1640, action were imported for about two
years before the design was changed to the 1900 action, a
push feed design. The bolts are very different for the two
models and are not interchangeable. Both designs were made
with S&W markings.
