I was cleaning my gun and noticed that the bolt rails, in the very front where they protrude from the bolt face don't have any paint on them. It almost looks like they were either damaged or when the bolt rails were being made they never cleaned them up. Like a long section of steel was being machined, coated and then cut into the dimensions needed and assembled without doing anything else. I need to get to the gun to take a picture but I wanted to see if anyone had the same. My gun is a DTZ2*** with A1 birdcage. Purchased this past February.

I started wondering when I saw the instructional videos and the rails in the vid don't have this problem.

Mine look like that (DTZ) my gun works perfect and they arent rusting so I'm not worried about it.

Yeah I haven't had any issues but I thought I might as well check to see if anyone else has the same thing on theirs.

I was thinking of taking my birchwood casey touch up pen to them. Any problems in doing that?

If you are worried about it, giving the ends a touch up wont hurt anything as long as the stuff isnt thick. I wouldnt even bother I don't think anything is going to happen if you leave it be.

Nah, I went with Marshal's magpul AFG FDE deal and while I was at it I got a M4 red dot with flashkill, 10-8 armors tool and a birchwood casey touch up pen.

Birchwood Casey Silicon Cloth

10-8 Armorer Tool (Black)

Would this also touch up nicks and stuff in the plastic of the M&P15-22?

+100 for Primary Arms. Ordered Sunday night around 2am and got to my door in Cleveland this morning. The M4 works great.
