Booby trap kills man in his own home on Thanksgiving night.

"A man was shot and killed after he set off a booby trap in his own home on Thanksgiving night.

"Ronald Cyr, 65, of Van Buren, Maine died of injuries sustained at his home on Nov. 28 after a handgun that was designed to fire upon anybody entering the front door of his residence went off.

"Officer Chandler Madore and the Van Buren Police Department, assisted by the U.S. Border Patrol, responded to a call indicating that Cyr had been shot. But when officers arrived on scene they discovered that he had been injured by a booby trap that he had allegedly set up himself, according to a statement released by the Van Buren Police Department.

"Several other booby traps were found at Cyr's residence causing investigators to contact the Maine State Police Bomb Squad.

"However, following an extensive investigation that last several hours, it was determined Cyr had been shot unintentionally after discharging his own booby trap.

"Regretfully, Mr. Cyr succumbed to the injuries sustained from the gunshot," said a statement from the Van Buren Police Department.

"It is unknown my Cyr had set up the booby traps at his home or how he managed to accidentally detonate the device.

I won't speak ill of the dead, but I will say that I can't help but wonder why he felt the need to booby trap his home.

Honestly, was his neighbourhood going bad? Had he experienced break-ins/home invasions in the past? What was his blood alcohol level at the time of death? I can't help but feel like there's a bit of missing information here. Folks don't just booby trap their own homes, and I'm going to assume that those who would go to such extremes must have some reason for doing so, and that they would be conscious enough of their own traps not to trigger one. There must have been some alcohol involved here.

Aroostook County Maine is way up northern Maine ...I'm not surprised that the Maine Warden Service & US Border Patrol are being used as local law enforcement. I bet the town only has one police officer on duty?
Only a Boob would set off his own Booby trap!

RESPECT PLEASE

there are all sorts of ailments/afflictions that can cause a break in reality . the poor man was probably suffering from mental illness or maybe parkinson's . parkinson's took my favorite Uncle from me way to soon . he suffered from paranoid delusions quite severely before it finally got him down to bedridden . instead of condemning someone we no nothing about , i think we should pray for peace and comfort for his family . i will . kenny , texas

Maybe "death by stupidity"?

Death by misadventure.

Yes they do, no they don't, and no, they frequently kill themselves.

And sometimes people are just nuts, but not in any you could diagnose. Nuts and a little stupid.

Seriously, this booby-trapping stuff happens more often than you'd think.

I wonder what his last thought was? "Doh?"
